1977 Toyota Landcruiser FJ40 For Sale Delaware

Photo Album link (ask if you need other shots)
77 FJ40

Solid frame and body –all rust surface only( except along center bottom of windshield )see pictures. Purchased 2012. Garaged until last January.

Exhaust - When I purchased it, it ran but failed inspection due to a manifold exhaust leak and also it had no catalytic converter. Being from California it had a thermoreactor manifold (which I still have and comes with the purchase). I switched it with a standard intake/exhaust manifold with new gasket. And converted to Trollhole carb to avoid vacuum system issues. I have numerous exhaust parts including two mufflers but exhaust needs completion. Also included is the downpipe and flange(that’s a $75 dollar part by itself)

Engine- very good condition -I researched vin online and found and contacted a previous owner who was President of a California chapter of Landcruiser club. He informed me that the engine had been rebuilt while he owned it which I estimate was at most maybe 5k miles ago.

Body/Frame – very solid with no rust through -PO mentioned rust under rear top lip but I have not had the top off and see no signs of further expansion – there is bubbling on windshield frame corner (see pics) all other rust is surface only and very minimal –Frame is solid

Tires – New ( maybe 200 miles on them)

Other noted issues – signs of Birf leak

Currently not running – IH8MUD Forum member Shark56 can attest to fact that this landcruiser does run as he helped in the past with some repairs.

Comes with lots old/new parts including

Steering assembly, center console, new hubcaps(current wheel do not have clips), two jump seats(one welded restored, one very rusted), rear aftermarket bench seat, original Asian carb, themoreactor manifold (unrepaired), full set of manuals, canvas bimini top and rollcage divider, and whatever else I have accumulated over the years.

In addition this includes over $8500 worth of parts and labor by PO. All receipts included

Warn Winch

So for $15000 you get a solid no rot Landcruiser with a rebuilt engine, rebuilt brake system, front end, and lots of the little stuff with extras.

If you put a little time/effort, mimimal cost depending on you skills and a decent paint job you’d have a really nice example of a TLC.

See my album for more pics. If you require other angles/shots please let me know

Why wouldn't you install the downpipe, attach the choke cable, add fuel and connect the battery ( possibly an hours work) and sell it as a running vehicle ?

It's all basically related to the exhaust issue, I was quoted $500 to install complete exhaust including a cat. I would have to have it towed to the muffler shop for $100.
I've lost interest in tinkering with it and I do not want to spend any more $'s on it. Winter is coming and I really don't want to have it sit in the elements for much longer as it is rare to find one in this kind of condition.
The driving force for the sale is that we moved and I no longer have a garage to store it in. If I did I would keep it until I retire and restore it to A1 condition which was my original plan, but things change.
If you have any doubts as to whether it runs please feel free to contact Shark56.
thanks for your interest

It will be simply viewed as a Parts Vehical if it Cannot or Will Not Run

it either starts up or it does not

why not take the time to make it so

also , why is the choke cable missing to begin with ?

I don't think cats are required on a 1977.

I can say for a fact it ran a little over a year ago. I even drove it around his neighborhood.
This is in very good shape. For east coast it is in excellent shape. Dave told me he was going to sell because of his now lack of garage space. I told him he would regret it.
If I did not have three I try to keep up now I would buy it myself!
This a very good deal for someone on the east coast looking for a 40.

You referenced rust on the rear top lip and the windshield frame, but neither can be seen in the 3 pics. Can you provide more photos...particularly of the "rust" areas, the undercarriage, floor boards, and the rear doors?

I think all you asked for plus many more are included, if you still need other shots please let me know
thanks

I didn't think so either but the Delaware DMV inspector disagreed and he failed me for emmisions

It is supposed to be 1979.
Unfortunately the DMV inspectors here have the final say and I will say, abuse their power occasionally. The only recourse is too supply them with official documentation that a 1977 did not require a Cat.
I have a 74 that had "Cruiser" across the windshield. Passed 3 times for a total of 6 years inspection. Failed last summer for the letters, by the same guy who inspected two years prior. He actually remembered the truck. Then told me he made a mistake by letting it pass before!
