1976 FJ40 with 3FE from 1992 80 series.
Great “survivor” truck. History on the cruiser is that I bought it from the son of the original owner. Spend most of its life in CA until it was sold to the son here in SD. This gentlemen is a work colleague so I received a good history on the truck.
The only part that was missing when I bought it was the bezel, which was stolen off the truck when it resided in CA. The top has never been removed! At some point it received a paint job on the exterior due to sun fading when it was in CA which is why the top is no longer white. The interior paint is still original.
I have original cans of touch up paint, tool kit, purchase receipt from dealer, owners manual and vehicle ID card.
The cruiser received a 3fe swap after I got the original 2f running and found that the back cylinder was knocking. The stock transmission and tcase is mated to the 3fe.
During the swap the frame was cleaned up and painted from the firewall forward.
-The 3fe was torn down and everything was resealed expect the head was not pulled. Anything that could fit in my bead blaster was cleaned and painted.
-Transmission and tcase were also resealed and cleaned up. A tcase saver and nose cone saver were installed on the tcase when it was out of the truck.
-Front axle and springs were cleaned and repainted as well as new shackles were installed that are slightly longer than stock for a slight lift.
- aisin hubs installed (short body)
-New Bilstein shocks front and rear
-New leaf spring bushings
-replacement bezel installed
-mini-truck power steering conversion
-all 5 wheels were bead blasted and repainted
- four new 31x10.5r15 ProComp all terrain tires ( I still have the original spare tire the cruiser was bought with if the purchaser desires to have it)
- new OME steering stabilizer
- new tie rod ends
-front calipers rebuilt
-new brake master cylinder
- new brake hoses and clutch hose
-interior is all original with no holes drilled in the dash
-front seats have no holes or tears.
-original floor liner still in truck.
-The body of the cruiser is solid with no rust in the floor pans and rear floor area except when you get to the rear sill, which needs replaced. It has the typical spot on the front fenders by the turn signals (I have patch panels cut from another set of fenders)
- bottoms of the doors have thin areas and will need attention.
- pictures show other areas of rust and I can take specific ones if needed.
I’m sure I missed listing something so if interested please PM me and we can get on the phone and actually talk to each other!
it’s a great cruiser to restore which was my plan till I LS swapped an 80 series which just works better for the activities I do now.
