Selling my 74 FJ55. I bought the truck in 2016 from a seller in Washington state who had done a frame off resto, but without welding in new sheetmetal. I drove the truck occassionally between 2016 and 2021 before putting it in storage intil 2023 . Over that time, the resto work that was done prior held up well but gradually started to show bubbling in the typical areas (fenders, rockers). Over the last year or so, i went about sourcing new rockers and ground down and neutralized the areas that bubbled, primed and painted them. I intentionally delayed the treatment of the rust after i initially observed it so that i could see exactly how far it woukd get and the locations that were effected ~ 2 years.

I chose to not try to match the existing silver respray that was done during the PO's resto and instead dressed the repaired areas in a faux patina effect.

Mechanically the truck is solid. It starts everytime and runs strong. Brakes have been upgraded to willwood discs and sports power steering as well. It also has a double battery setup. The motor is a stock but reconditioned 2f (work done by PO). Since i have had it, i replaced the oil pan gasket, drive belt, lower radiator hose and performed a couple of oil changes as well as a coolant flush and refill.

The interior was refreshed by the PO and shows the vinyl and carpet tratment typical of these rigs.

In terms of negatives -

I bent the bumper pulling into a garage space. Its nothing serious but is noticeable. A replacement is roughly $300. Just never felt the need to address it.

The reverse lights were never completely wired during the PO's resto. I spent a weekend looking at it long enough to see the two wire leads at the transmission not connected to anything. The wire harness at the rear is intact, i just never drove the teuck enough to warrant getting it sorted.

The rear window is slow but goes up and down.

The dash light illuminating the switches needs a new bulb.

I sourced additional seatbelts but they need to be installed.

The whole rig could use a detail to bring it back to its glory.

Happy to answer any questions and will be in state to show the truck between the 23rd and 29th of this month.

Will post more pics.

Considering putting it on BRing A Trailer since i am not 100% confident in what the asking price should be but i would like to think it would see ~$25k.

its probably worth noting that the patina touch is much more extensive than the actual rust repair areas were. I took a bit of artistic license in blending the new paint into the old.

Do you have engine bay, more interior and under carriage pics?

I dont have any undercarriage pics and only have one more on my computer of the interior (also of the front seats and dash) but can snap more next Wednesday and send / post them. FYI, this truck hasnt been detailed so the engine bay is in an appropriately used but well kept condition. I honestly dont believe in shining up and over blemishes and use traces that hide how a vehicle was REALLY used by a seller.

Great looking rig. Frankly, most here would be fine with “used condition” pics than “just washed fresh” pics. Don’t hesitate on that. If you have pics on how rust repairs were done would greatly help give buyers additional confidence. GLWS.

Good point, most Mud buyers are not like your typical buyer or person that will comment on BAT.

Nice 55. How confident are you that this is a reconditioned 2F? To me, it looks more likely that it's an F155, which is the engine that it would have come with originally. Also, it has a 3 speed tranny, correct?

Thanks. It could be an F.5 now that you mention it, but i thought i remembered a mechanic who serviced it once saying it was a 2f. The engine was out for the resto and i know the PO sourced the best panels and bits he could from a few trucks he had to complete this one. So the model year isnt necessarily a marker for the engine thats in it - same with the 3 speed (it is a 3 speed).

A few images of the resto undertaken by the PO. In some of the images you can see the patched areas (green or yellow bondo) of bodywork where rust was addressed. They mary up pretty well to the areas i touched up. No new areas cropped up during my ownership. If i kept the truck i woukd weld in the new rockers... eventually. But the repair i did will be good enough for another 8 years if not longer, depending on how the truck is driven, so i decided to just to address it without major intervention and enjoy it.

The chassis itself and substructure behind the fenders is solid. Even the fenders are in pretty good shape to be honest. The rears had rust and some pinholing around the fender lips, and decay at the returns but otherwise the flatwork was in good shape. Same as with the rockers, i'd considered swapping out the worst of the front fenders for a restored piece from a shop in Colorado but after the work i did to fix what i had, decided it wasn't necessary.

I bet taking off those chevy running boards will immediately upgrade the look and desirability of people just glancing at it
I bought it that way and had the same feeling, but after living with it for 9 years, they are functional (bought the truck from an older gentleman) and useful when you have a 7 year old and a short spouse. It certainly didnt deter me when i bought it. Besides , they are about as easy to take off as foglights. 30 minutes tops.

I see you on BAT, GLWS!!
