I just bought a '72 FJ40 with a lot of issues. The first one that needs to be addressed is fixing the headlights. I've read a bunch of stuff I found searching, but I'm still not sure. :o I'm looking for a wiring diagram for it. I found one for a '71, but the color codes are different. The wiring in this is a mess and I'd like to clean it up without F ing it up more than it already is.

Any ideal where to get a wiring diagram for a '72, or another year that is the same?

Thanks for any help.

Oh, It's been hacked. The whole front end of the body is fiberglass. It's this one. If there's not much difference between the 71 and 72 then the wires have been changed to different colored wires. The wires going to the headlights now are pink, brown. and black.

The headlight switch was bad, power going in, but not coming out in any switch position. I took the switch apart, it looks like there is some kind of thermal switch inside that broke or melted. I soldered it closed, but that isn't the only problem. The lights still won't work. I think I'm going to have to do it the hard way and take everything out and trace each wire back to a known good source.:bang: Most of this thing is Chevy anyway, so I might get a Chevy switch and headlight harness for it. We'll see.

Is this the headlight relay?

and in the upper left in this one?

It's probably GM then. I think whoever did the work to it used wiring from the unknown donor vehicle. The steering box and the entire drivetrain are Chevy/GMC units and there is a center console with GMC on it. I'll have to figure out what it is. At least Chevy/GMC trucks are plentiful in the junkyards.
