Hey all - I'm working on installing a Disc Brake conversion on my 1972 FJ40 and am trying to take off all the old Drum stuff, but I seem to be stuck with the backing plate and the spindle. Do they separate from each other? They seem pretty stuck together but I think I need just the spindle for the conversion.

You don't need the backing plate. In fact, it must be removed to bolt on the rotor and caliper bracket. Remove those two bolts still on the backing plate and coax it off with a mallet. Mine were stuck on really tight as well. Once loosened, they'll pop right off.

Ah, two more bolts?! I did not know there were more bolts to be removed. That would explain why it wouldn't budget when I was trying to smack it off. Thank you AZMoonshadow
