I just purchased a 1970 FJ40. It has top mounted, hand-moveable wipers. There is a loose wire dangling, but no wiper motor or any hardware to attach to the wipers. I have looked at parts dealers and went through a lot of threads in this forum. It looks like these motors and assemblies are hard to come by. Is it easier to get rid of my top-mounted wipers and try to install bottom ones with a new motor and assembly than to find a old style top-mounted motor and assembly?

Did you search the mud classifieds? I searched that forum for 'wiper motor' and found several right off the bat - here's one that recently sold for $50 plus shipping: SOLD - 1968-1974 Wiper Motor & Link Assembly
Thanks. I have looked at other places and found a couple for unreasonable prices. I haven't look on these classifieds much yet, mostly because I can't figure out how to search easily. I'll keep looking for it. At least it sounds like there may be some out there that might not break my bank.

If you go to the parts section of the classifieds, then type in what you want and select "this forum" from the drop down menu, it will help streamline the results:

Thanks. I actually ended up using the tag from the sold one you sent. Nothing new for a while, but I found a couple that sold for cheaper than I saw on eBay. I’ll keep checking
