April 14, 2025 Update: Available for sale again !

When buyer came to finalize sale yesterday, he spotted a different truck and we made a deal on that--he's now posted his new buy-- Congrats ! So............this one's back on the market for anyone who felt they missed out first shot--here's your chance for a solid candidate. Same details as before. BTW, there is/was no buyer's remorse--buyer could've gone either truck.

Note: this is the last one I'll be selling for a while--that's it. If..........I change my mind, you'll see it here--no BaT, Ebay, Facebook, etc.--this is the platform, and you're my friends. Thanks for the support !

Very nice 45 project. Lots of important rare parts there. GLWS

Thank-you, Dogfish. Yes an intended project in the queue, not something I can say I'm proud to have restored, because it's pretty much as I got it 16 years ago waiting its turn. All the "special" widgets I feel are unique to the 45 pickups are there: the spare tire handlebar carrier, the correct tailgate hinges, the tailgate chains, all the j-hooks and clamps for the special front roof and hardtop latches, the front marker lamps, the correct tail lamps, the working wiper motors, the wiper and headlight switches with the correct knobs. Sadly not the rear view mirror; the "room" lamp needs a lens, but they are available. Unfortunate some music junky felt the need to cut into the dash for his radio--I did acquire a dash cutout for that but it's buried at the moment in one of many unlabeled boxes. Has the barrel Warn hubs, the running boards are great and not Swiss cheese, new door lock, correct passenger seat, etc.

Of course it can be picked-apart for what it isn't, what it doesn't have, what was changed, and what needs done--but the bones are there to make it whatever is the goal. Living in the Southwest we don't think much about rust and the damage done to vehicles by salted roads and humid environments--so that makes this guy a survivor and eminently restorable. Not really correct with a V-8, but they have their benefits, and an older F engine could be sourced for a purist. Because there aren't many to ever choose from, you work with what's out there, and learn to master the "hunt" for parts from 50 years ago. Whether restored or used as-is these old pickups have their charm, and unlike the FJ40s, the 45s come in handy for a weekend trip to Home Depot, the garden center, a trip to the dump, picking up a large purchase for yourself or a friend. Hey, maybe I'm convincing myself to keep this one. Well, that's always an option if one of my fellow addicts gets cold feet.

I think I need to stop talking.

Greetings,

If still for sale, can you post some pics of this ole girl with her knickers down? Interested in the 150 additional photos to include:
Frame shots
Drive line
Front/rear diffs. original?
Motor mounts
Shackle mounts
Shock mounts
Leaf springs
Body mounts
Fuel tank
Good all around shots of the engine bay

Which V8 adapter?
How’s the rad/cooling system? Water pump old/new/indifferent?
Hubs? And weeping?

4xDrum brakes all around?

How’s the rubber around the doors?
Windows operate?

What flavor 350? Mileage? Rebuilt? Year? Carb?
How’s the oil pressure at idle? Running?
Does it smoke on start up? Running?

Pics of the bed(s).

Good run down of the good, bad and ugly would be most appreciated.

Million $$$ question any leaks. If so where?

Would you describe this as a driving project or a project to drive? Don’t know the early 45’s inside and out so apologies if redundant or sophomoric. Thanks!!!

We must be in the same stage of life Michael. Reading this thread I know that a dozen years ago I would have jumped on something like this. But a lot of changes have happened in those dozen years, and I am a lot more sanguine about the opportunity costs of taking on projects when there’s barely enough time to keep the rest of the fleet up to par.

I think that you have priced this rig perfectly, and am a little surprised that it is still available. GLWS

Sanguine is the perfect word for being involved in a niche automotive world for long periods of time.

Agreed-- a very narrow corner of the world. Like with any endeavor, the intensity of interest ebbs and flows with real life's distractions and obligations. Longtimers can develop a certain calmness and acceptance of the highs and lows that comes with learned patience and experience. Anyway, whadda I know ! I just likes me the old pickup trucks !

Back on the market (see above). This truck runs and rolls, the brakes need bled and flushed. The correct parking brake kit is once again available at Specter Off Road. As with all vehicles that have sat in long-time storage, it should be gone through before any use on the road. Trailer it home. Enjoy !
