Matt,
Great work again. The end of the tunnel is near, just hang in there and keep working on it non-stop so we can see the complete product sooner! :) And so you can come down and work on my fj62 :) j/k Although this truck looks cleaner than mine already. Have a great week man and push the piant at ACE this week. I hear its good stuff!! (The things you learn after on;y 2 or 3 years at a ACE pt. )

Small update.

Went home for lunch and loaded up the remaining scrap steel I cut out of the lv, finally throwing it out! Keeping a couple pieces I cut out to reference some holes, like the tailgate and such, where emblems go.

No big deal, but I'm doing something :)

Melt it down and pour a Metal LV door stop mold.

Pure LV!

Since I don't have the lv physically in front of me and some spare time on my hands, my mind starts to wonder on what to do next. I took a little road trip this evening and drove up to my buddies house to look at the front drive shaft.

I held the front drive shaft up in front of the T-case and it looks like it would take a lot of grinding off the transmission to get that U joint to fit in there. The pic you see was taken with the lense of the camer directly on the flange of the axle. So what you see is a straight shot to the T case.

I think I'm going to get on the horn tomorrow morning with AA and order up that smaller yoke kit they have for this problem. Just don't see any other way around it?

One question, I have a T case from a 79 FJ40. I would need kit # 716371, which is the fine spline kit, correct? The 3 yoke options are located at the bottom of the page, note #7.

Thanks, Matt

should be the one piece case, fine spline. post 80 and up cases have much bigger front output shafts.

It is a 1 piece case for sure. I saw on the AA sight they have the 3 options, course, fine and 19 spline.

I kinda assumed fine spline because Downey offroad offers 2 options instead of 3.

41464-F ‘64-77 Course Spline Flange/Joint
41478-F ‘78-87 Fine Spline Flange/Joint

I had called Downey last week, they want $200 for theres, AA is $185. I assume there the same thing???

I don't see any other way to clear it right now, U joint is making a lot of contact up near the flange. Looks like a smaller U joint would take care of the problem.

Thanks, Matt

Matt,

What about doing a 2 piece shaft...check out Woody's build up in the hard core section....

https://forum.ih8mud.com/showthread.php?t=30253&page=6&pp=30

look near the bottom of the page.

Stew

Supposedly people do it all the time with a 1 piece drive shaft. I have seen pics, but can't find any.

I don't think a 2 piece shaft like Woody's would solve my problem. When I was underneath there last night holding the driveshaft up there, the yoke was hitting the tranny. Even if it was to angle away towards the frame, I think the yoke would still hit the corner of the tranny. I think the smaller yoke kit is my only option right now.

No big deal, I kinda figured I might need to get it anyway. Just want to make sure I get the right kit. I will be ordering the fine spline for my 79 T case today.

Thanks, Matt

I haven't ever bought anything from them but btb has it as well...

http://store.btbprod.com/cgi-bin/btbprod.storefront

30-3152 * Front Transfer Case Output Flange Assembly, '78-'87 Fine Spline
The stock Land Cruiser front drive shaft upper universal joint is too large and will not clear a GM automatic transmission housing or oil pan. A smaller universal joint is required to clear the transmission.

Excellent pic Mike!!! :) That is the stuff I like to see, probably why I take so many pics of my junk :D

Just got off the phone with AA. Shipping today, part# 716371, UPS 3day select (3 bucks more).

I'm guessing the one BTB is selling is AA's?

Matt

Question for Mike or anyone else for that matter.

How does all this stuff go together. I'm not seeing all those parts in the pic Mike posted of the completed unit?

Thanks, Matt

The round flange replaces your output flange on the tcase.. Like a pinion flange really
The yolk where the Ujoint goes in bolts to the flange and goes to the driveshaft.
The Other half of the driveshaft is a plug that goes into the driveshaft tubing and your driveshaft will have to be modified. That helP?
The part you labeled "this goes in the Tcase" is your slip joint on the driveshaft
Which mates to the plug piece on the lower left.
