Pic of the the skin fit inside the opening for fun, fits good. This is just a loose fit, there is no tail gate on the other side of that skin. That will probalby get fit up Tuesday when my body man buddy comes to town.

Other is all the metal I have cut out of the lv to date.....I think that skin might be the last of it. :)

Here's the end of the crossmember, as for how they are when bolted in you'll need to wait till I get there! I'm not as fast as you :)

I wonder why they did that???

still waiting for your body man to come?

Yep, came and went yesterday. Really didn't do much, we both wrapped the skin around the edge, but pretty sure I could have handled it myself, he was only there about an hour and took off.

Later last night I finished welding the edges and spot welding the top. I used sheet metal screws up top to pull it in tight against the inside edge and then welded holes in between the screws. When I got that welded I took the screws out and welded those. That worked pretty good.

Printed off some pics of my other tailgate thread and brought those home so I could use them as templates to cut out for my hinges. After I got the hinges areas cut out I fit the hinges in and fasten the tailgate to the body. I had to take the tailgate on and off about a dozen times to keep tweaking, but I got it pretty good.

It's still going to need some massaging to get it better, but I'm close.

Thanks, appreciate the compliment. That was a lot of work, but just had to be done. The old tailgate was pretty much.....no...it totally was, complete garbage. It still needs a little bit of tweaking, but it is fresh, straight, epoxy primed inside and out metal now.

I actually just came from home, my body man buddy was in town again today and we ran out there. Wanted to show him a few of the minor fitment issues and ask him how to proceed. He told me no big deal at all, in fact that it looked great! He said if I wanted to I could just hold off and both of us could tweak it when I bring it up to his place when we start slinging plastic and prepping for paint.....I'm going to be taking him up on that :) It's 99.9% there right now, just needs a minor tweaking here and there.

I think I might go back to the roof and start grinding welds down....or I might start looking at the doors and those bear jaw latch assemblies. I've been kinda dreading starting those latches, just thinking it's going to be a pain in the ass to make all that linkage.....

Matt

Maybe you should scroll back through some of the pages here, I can't imagine making some linkages will test your skills or take you very long. Super job on the tailgate.

Don't have a lot to show for tonights episode, just a primed tailgate.

I did however bust out those bear jaw latches and sit and think about how that could work for over an hour.

Did some sketches on the computer, see what you guys think......any suggestions pipe up.!!!

I will let the pics and text on those do the talking, I think I explained it pretty good??

Couple things, I have about 5/8" of room between the window track and the door skin to get those bear jaws in, and there about 3/4" wide......so..........not sure........

Also, 4 holes on the side of the bear jaw latch to fasten in to the door, 2 of those holes, the ones towards the outside of the door are inline with the window track.....so...........can't put a bolt through there. The hollow portion where the bolt goes through is pretty thick....I was thinking possibly tapping those and threading in from the outside with no nut on the back, that may work.

Anyway.......look and please comment.

Thanks, Matt
