I’m looking for a more period correct F engine for my 1960 FJ28L restoration. Right now it’s got a 1970 F in it that I’d like to swap out.

Ideally it would be from a 1960 and hopefully someplace in Arizona but beggars can’t be choosers, if we need to ship it freight we can do that too. It’s going to be rebuilt so condition doesn’t matter as much as completeness.

Gosh, a few years ago I tossed a 60 fj25 long block. It had sat outside for 25 years and really didn’t think anyone would want to go through the expense of building it. Seems the last few years things are changing and these early trucks are finally getting the attention they deserve. I know of a complete f 135hp local for sale here in NorCal. It’s $900 but looks complete ? It’s circa 1965.

Think 1960 fj25 with the 120hp 135hp was 61 thru 67 ish. This f135 is a late 65 with a small window carb. It would look the part, but maybe hold out for a 62 thru 65 with a big window sd40.

Carbs can be easily swapped.

I run a small window D40 on my 64/45 even though I have several SD40s to choose from. :meh:

I have toyed with pulling the 135 out of the 45 in favor of a 2F. Need more ponies with the 800# of bumpers, racks and spare parts I haul around. It’s fully rebuilt, balanced and blueprinted, block line bored, domed pistons, 2F crankshaft (takes standard harmonic balances) rocker arm shafts hard chromed and turned back down to factory spec, yada yada.

Make me an offer good enough to jump start my 2F swap. I’ve been puttingit off for almost 10 years now.

I’ve got the big window carb already. I just want to have the proper engine in there. @65swb45 Ill PM you on yours.

I did find an FJ25 F engine on Craigslist last night for $100 But it’s missing the head. Supposedly crank shaft turns freely. Engine # seems appropriate (starts with F19...). Also not local so might be an ordeal to get it back to Phoenix.

All apologies. As soon as I got to the shop and faced the reality of my workload again, I was horrified at the prospect of how long my 45 might end up being out of service.

If you’re still looking in six months, give me a jingle. In the meantime, you might want to check out my sig line and my website.

No worries!

The 1960 20 series did have a F135. One difference between the 20 and 40 series is the 20 series did not have a PCV. It has a draft tube on the oil fill and slits in the valve cover to make up the air being drawn out the draft tube. There was also two types of front engine mounts on the 1960 FJ25. Later was standard like later 40 series. The early was a plate bolted to the front of the block.

Do you have plans for your 1970 F motor that you are swapping out?

Have you checked the compression on your old one?
