GM 1956 GMC gets an upgrade or two!

This afternoon I trimmed the bottom of the inner fender to allow the steering shaft to pass under it. Not much picture worthy for the hours of work spent And a pitiful picture at that!

It has been a little while since my last post. A lot of little progress projects. I have had to wait on parts delivery to finish the steering setup. I made a bracket to stabilize the bottom of the column. It will mount to and behind the column surrounded at the base of the column and will be seal with the factory foam weather seal. I will use a T-bolt clamp to secure it to the column.

When I installed the upper double D u-joint it became apparent that I needed to get the new cast iron headers on order. The upper joint was rubbing the stock exhaust manifold. The new header fixed both issues I was having on the drivers side. Now the exhaust system will connect and there is plenty of room for the upper u-joint.

Yesterday I installed the shifter linkage.

Last weekend I started working on removing the steel bed floor. My initial plan was to lift the bed and cut the floor out of it in one piece. That wasn’t possible, so plan B was to disassemble the bed. That worked, it just took longer. It also changed how I am going to store the bed. I need the bed floor in one piece to transplant into another utility trailer I have.

It was a productive weekend in the shop. I have the cab 99% stripped. I’m preparing to start the metal work on the cab.

Another productive weekend on the 56’. Next weekend I hope to have the axels and suspension out from under it.

There's a thread in the 55 section that talks about welding on frames . That an old fridge in the shop? Used to have an old GE monitor top .

@bobm the fridge is a 1923 Fridgedaire I plan to either get running or converting to something more contemporary. It’s really nice inside and out for its age.

Nice. The 1 I had was built like a safe. Had like Ball & Claw feet. And a little pedal at the bottom of 1 leg that opened door if you had an arm full of groceries

It’s not really big enough for much more than pistols. I don’t think my AR would fit in it.

Safe is better . Although me Electric bill went up $40.00 a month after plugging dat ting in. Never mind da Gas and Chems in it that would Kill you and ya whole fam while ya sleep . But ya would be 🌬.

Bob I recognize the risks with SO refrigerants. Not much danger to the family, as the unit is in my detached shop. My plan is to refurbish the unit with modern equipment, if possible. Otherwise it may very well turn into a safe

Ever have one of those weekends?
Success, but not without a battle. There were several bolts that the cutoff wheel was used on. But it’s done and the frame is ready for blasting and paint.
