Old vehicles 😉. 2 steps forward and 3 backwards 🤔🧐😏. That's how it works 😘.
Bob, all of the planning and thinking are done (for the most part), now it’s time to get to work 🤓💪🏻🇺🇸

Last week I thought the frame was ready for blasting and paint. Sunday evening I remembered I had purchased some frame strengthening plates for the steering gear box area. These frames are notorious for cracking in this area and my frame was no exception. I couldn’t get time to weld them in during the week, so I spent this morning and afternoon burning them in. Considering my welder is probably on the edge of its capabilities and I am not well practiced at in the art of hot glueing metal, it turned out okay 🤷🏻‍♂️

Now it’s ready for blasting and paint. I almost didn’t borrow enough trailer. The frame is 16’ 1”.

Not an extremely productive weekend. But progress was made.

Tomorrow evening I will deliver the frame for blasting and paint.

After a few weeks of cleaning and paint the rear axle is ready for reassembly.

I finished cleaning and painting the rear axle. New brakes and axle bearings installed. This week I will deliver it to a local shop to have the differential rebuilt. I also bolted a few parts to the frame.

The axle is making the 68’ list port side. It only weighs 650 lbs without the wheels.

I have been cleaning and painting parts for a few weeks. Today I bolted some of them on the frame.

I have been cleaning, painting and installing several smaller parts. I hope to have the rear axle back this week. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Yesterday I found out the carrier in the rear differential has excessive wear and the ring gear has rust pitting. Apparently letting the axels sit with the vent tube capped generates condensation. Fortunately I had a spare carrier in better condition. Unfortunately the gear ratio was different. So I’m going to need a new ring and pinion.

Then today I opened the front differential up to inspect it and found one of the spider gears chipped. Hmmmm, Merry Christmas 🎄

It’s been a busy few weeks. I stripped the Dana 44 down. This was a new adventure for me. Yesterday I degreased all the nasty parts. Today I sandblasted about half of them. Then it was time for paint. Next weekend I will get the other half blasted and painted.

Another nice shop…. 🤒

OCB canceled on me so I have you earmarked for my Monday AM first cup read.

It is indeed an infection, with only one known cure 🤷🏻‍♂️

1st and 2nd cup read. 55-56 IMHO are the best. Good call on the LS. 🏆

Now I get to review the shop build…😉

So I received good news and bad news from my transmission guy today. The good news is that the 4L60 is ready and in great condition. The bad news is the 700r4 is not rebuildable.

The 14 bolt was finally finished. So I picked it up and moseyed over to the transmission shop and retrieved all of my stuff. The little truck was loaded down pretty heavy. I rode home bouncing off the bump stops.
