Just purchased a 06 lc with 182k on it. Not our first lc. We currently have a 2011 and have owned a 2000 previously. Just always did whatever the dealer rec'd.

So for this one...

-Timing belt was last done at 96k
-oil changes at smaller lube place every 5k
-Toyota service records since 150k include: new brakes, rotors and front wheel bearings re-packed, new alternator, new battery
-Nothing about any fluids... differential, trans, power steering, brake, AHC, etc.
-No record of spark plugs ever being done

I've read everything about the 90k on this forum and I realize it is subjective and case dependent. We would like to keep this car a long time and don't mind investing some dinero to keep us off the side of I-70 or stuck in the wilderness somewhere, but don't want to go overboard. Shared the part list "while you are in there" that Beno created and dealer came back with a quote of $2800. Slee quoted $2500. They do their 90 at 100k. Waiting on list of what is included. From what I have read their service is quite extensive.

So my confusion... Pre purchase inspection from Toyota dealer came clean except a "tiny" as in tiny enough they couldn't even count it as a leak in the newer oil pan. Said it could be one of 3 things...dirty oil change, cam shaft seal or needs a new oil pan. Since it already is a newer oil pan they said it definitely is not that. Yes, we will take on it on manageable trails. Not sure if we should just monitor for oil leaks and wait till 200k or go ahead and have work done since we don't really know the entire service history. Dealer that quoted the $2800 said to save he would probably not do the cam shaft seal because that was $600 (variable valve engine).

The list I compiled and sent to the dealer to quote.

oil change & filter
4 x 4 service (differential & transfer case)
re-torque propeller shaft bolt
Lubricate Propeller shaft
Timing Belt
Timing belt tensioner
Serpentine belt
Cam Shaft seals
Crank Seal
Thermostat (with gasket)
PCV valve/grommet/hose/gasket (think grommet doesn't exist on this year, not sure)
RH and LH idler pulleys
Water pump including o ring, upper and lower hoses and coolant

IF NEEDED (please quote as optional)

Trans Fluid
Power Steering Fluid
Brake Fluid
Engine Air Filter
Cabin Air Filter
Spark Plugs
Heater Hose

If "MINO" (money is no object) would you do it all? If not, tell me your list that will help me take this one through to the next 100k without issue. Thanks:)!

I think you have a pretty comprehensive list above.

...take this one through to the next 100k without issue...

In the next 100k, you'll likely start going through ignition coils. They aren't difficult or time-consuming to replace, but if you want to prevent a handful of inconvenient stops, go ahead and replace your plugs and coils.

If the fan is getting loud, have them replace the fan bracket (it shouldn't involve any extra labor) and if the plastic on the top of the radiator has become a healthy brown, I'd probably go ahead and do that too.

I have an 07 with 260k miles. when I bought it the dealer did a new timing belt and water pump. He also did the cam seal because it was leaking.
Since then, I did new plugs and ran on down the road. put 5k on it in 3 months.

Truck needed a new o2 sensor and needs a new rear ac condenser. Ive driven the truck 5k miles in 3 months, and overall, I'm floored with how solid the truck is. On my 07 LX, underneath all the leather and luxury, is ancient, and bulletproof technology. Drive and enjoy.

I just picked up my first LC a couple days ago and was gonna ask the same question. It's an 01 that also has 180k on it. Thanks for the list, I'll use it as a starting point along with the other responses. Excited to learn more about all the good info I've seen on this forum.

-Timing belt was last done at 96k.... DO at 186 or sooner, VVTi is true interference engine.
-oil changes at smaller lube place every 5k.... These guy's rarely lube the propeller shafts so inspect spiders & yokes closely.
-Toyota service records since 150k include: new brakes, rotors and front wheel bearings re-packed, new alternator, new battery
-Nothing about any fluids... differential, trans, power steering, brake, AHC, etc. ...... Wheel bearing should be done ever 30K miles. Very few shop do it correctly. Have Slee check or redo may save $$ you on long run.
-No record of spark plugs ever being done ...... DIY I'd just clean and inspect, but this cost the same as replacing if shop doing work. So just replace it, think of it as insurance for the more expensive COP's (coils)

****** Pre purchase inspection from Toyota dealer came clean except a "tiny" as in tiny enough they couldn't even count it as a leak in the newer oil pan. Said it could be one of 3 things...dirty oil change, cam shaft seal or needs a new oil pan. Since it already is a newer oil pan they said it definitely is not that. *****........ Very rare to see pan replaced or pan gasket. Generally oil is from above do to head covers bolts needing re torqueing or oil spillage during oil change. I've seen some pan bolts needing re torque.

Dealer that quoted the $2800 said to save he would probably not do the cam shaft seal because that was $600 (variable valve engine). They can inspect weep hole ,if no oil leak seen why quote or do it....... I'd don't do seal unless at least one leaking. Funny, I just asked Groove for quote on additionally cost of seals when doing VVTi time belt, job they said $100 extra for seal.

The list I compiled and sent to the dealer to quote.

oil change & filter
4 x 4 service (differential & transfer case)...... Do for sure, use synthetic.
re-torque propeller shaft bolt...... Yes
Lubricate Propeller shaft ...... Every 5K
Timing Belt...... As noted above.
Timing belt tensioner..... Yes also idler.
Serpentine belt..... Only if needed.
Cam Shaft seals..... Only if at least one leaking
Crank Seal ...... Only if at least one leaking.
Thermostat (with gasket) Good idea
PCV valve/grommet/hose/gasket (think grommet doesn't exist on this year, not sure)...... No grommet on 06, just clean PCV valve and replace hoses if cracked only.
RH and LH idler pulleys....... Only if needed, they give plenty of warning.
Water pump including o ring, upper and lower hoses and coolant ...... Again only if need. The factory installed pump & hoses are the best. If pump was change at 96K then replace again.

IF NEEDED (please quote as optional)

Trans Fluid..... Yes I like full flush frequently (15k to 20K) with Mobil One MV ATF in my 2001.
Power Steering Fluid.... Yes I like full flush frequently (5k to 10K) with Mobil One MV ATF in my 2001.
Brake Fluid..... In Colorado this is not generally a big Deal. Dealer or Slee can inspected. The factory fluid is the best and can't be sourced in the USA by the can. Once it has been flushed, do every 3 years thereafter.
Engine Air Filter...... If needed OEM is good choice.
Cabin Air Filter..... If needed you can spend $15 or $100 depending on what level of filtration you desirer
Spark Plugs..... Factory recommended only.
Heater Hose....... Tee's for sure with OEM. If hoses are swollen it would indicated over heating. In that case replace hoses also.

If "MINO" (money is no object) would you do it all? If not, tell me your list that will help me take this one through to the next 100k without issue. Thanks:)

Flush and have AHC set to factory spec along with alignment. Make sure they set torsion bars.
Check all vacuum hoses.
Clean Throttle body.
Clean MAF sensor.
Clean & grease battery post.
Check all suspension and steering rack bushing.
Coolant flush with factory every 50K IIRC in your model.

This is a great list and really helpful (as a new owner of a 2001 LX 470).

I have a few follow-up questions for you. For reference, my truck has 162k.

1) How often should the 4x4 service be done? Last owner did differential service at 150k but not sure when transfer case was last serviced.

2) How often should propeller shaft be re-torqued?

3) How often should AHC be serviced? Last owner serviced at 115k.

4) Pre-purchase insepction identified crank seal as having small (and they emphasized small) leak. Should that be fixed immediately?

5) How often should throttle body be cleaned?

Thanks!

T-Case & front Differential ~20K, rear Differential ~30K miles.
2) How often should propeller shaft be re-torqued?
Every 5K miles (I've never found loose).
3) How often should AHC be serviced? Last owner serviced at 115k.
~20K - 30K miles or 3 years, with can from dealer.
4) Pre-purchase insepction identified crank seal as having small (and they emphasized small) leak. Should that be fixed immediately?
Clean weep hole and re-inspect, if you see leak do right away.
5) How often should throttle body be cleaned?
I do once a year in Oct or Nov. This is after the fuel blend changes to winter blend. Disconnecting battery for 30 min (clean & grease post) to reset ECM. You can go longer, say 20K and do with Air filter change if you like. I find using synthetic oil, the PCV valve will stay cleaner as will T-body. But by doing each year it will be just a lite wipe.

Thanks!

Note: I use synthetic M1 and change as I've found color changes. This is in stop and go city/HWY no trailer or heavy load.
