I am looking at upgrading the brakes on my '18LX. (Ive read through quite a few threads, but having an +16 LX seems to put me in a small minority. I think the 18 LX has the Tundra brakes?)

My goal is to operate at/near max GCWR by being loaded up with kids and a TT. I will be in the Pacific Northwest and so at times I will be in the mountains, while being fully loaded.

If I could install a SC on this model, I would - and then I could justify a real BBK.

It seems that the best upgrade for performance on the dollar is to simply go with (Tundra?) TRD pads front and rear (which I have already ordered online).

I know I can also order a braided line kit, or have one made. I may very well do that.

I am going to use the 20s and so I have some flexibility. I can spend a few bucks, if the performance justifies the $$.

Is there anything worth doing that will be a substantial improvement from the TRD pads, without spending $5k?

We have had good luck with the Terrain Tamer HP brake kits - slotted/drilled rotors and composite pads.

We have rotors for the 2016+ but they are not on the website yet..... :(

Check em out, give us a call and thanks!

Performance Friction 2 piece floating rotors with pads are the way to go. Designed for the SOCOM NSCV program. I’ve been running a set for six years with original pads. With big hp or heavy loads or towing the brakes are amazing.

Any recommended vendors?

According to the Performance Friction web site (Brake Products for Automotive & Motorsports | PFC Parts Finder) the only parts they offer for a 2013 LC200 are the front rotors - no brake pads and nothing for the rears.

Am I missing something?

ETA: Nothing offered for 2018.

Front and rear rotors and calipers are the same from 08 to 15. Rear rotors are the same part number throughout 08 to 18.

For the LC at least.
That’s the type of info I need for my ‘18 LX. If I understand correctly, the ‘16-‘18 LX uses the Tundra pads, calipers, and rotors. I could probably figure it out if I sat down and checked part numbers for each year and model, year after year, but I just haven’t.

Resurrecting this old thread from the dead. Still looking at the BBK upgrade, especially now that I’m pretty heavy.

Anyone know of any BBK for the 16+ models?

Anyone know anything about the Alcon kits for armored 200s? They fit on pre-16, so I’m uncertain as to how much upgrade there really is compared to the 16+ with just upgraded rotors and pads...

Try Frozen Rotors, Hawk LTS pads, and Crown stainless steel lines. Huge step up without the issues of a BBK setup.

Brake feel has certainly improved. I am confident that stopping distance has improved as well, but have not done any testing. Coming from the sports car world I can tell you that a BBK will only really improve brake fade. Pads (and rotors to a small degree) are what reduce stopping distance.

@JZelnick, right. And because I’m pretty heavy now (7k-8k [maybe more]) and towing a trailer in the mountains, fade is a concern. I use trailer brakes and the transmission, but I still want to have as much available stopping power as possible, given all the details of my situation. With 20 inch wheels I can accommodate substantial rotors, and thus pads.

With 20s you have lots of options for big brake kits, honestly don't think you need them but they out there.

I thought there were many options as well but that doesn’t seem to be the case. Are there some in particular you’re referring to?

Brake parts from 2008+ should fit the 18+ models, right?

Would the Tundra TRD BBK fit?

You can try R1 concepts, they have up to an 8 piston caliper and 16" rotor. Their site only goes up to 2015 model year though.

Not sure. For whatever reason, virtually nobody lists anything for 16+, nor for Tundra. I know that the Alcon brakes I referenced above are different for pre-16 and 16+.

I know for fact that wilwood is currently developing a complete brake system for 2016+ 200 series. Their initial design didn’t quite fit 2017 Lx because Lexus/Toyota upgraded the brake system. Adjustments should be ready in 2-3 months per Wilwood.
