PART II FOR THIS THREAD - MUD MYSTERY
I started a thread for the 79 last year and had a bunch of nice interactions. Not sure WTF happened, but a few weeks ago, it apparently just disappeared. No sign of it ever existing per a moderator. No harm, no foul, just starting over.

My trucks need a name. This is Barak Abyad (Barry White). What else do you call a big (long/tall single cab, 7 foot bed, monster GVW), white, powerful (240hp coil pack 24 valve) that sounds so smooth?
Why now? Well, the truck arrived and we are getting it ready for a road trip from Canton, MS to Flagstaff, AZ to join the Terrain Tamer folks as a vehicular guest at Overland EXPO West.
I will add more historical info and photos as time allows, but will give a quick summary here. The sequence of posted content will not be linear but hope you all find some information and entertainment should you subscribe. As always, comments, questions, suggestions and the like are welcome.
Here are the highlights:

WHAT
A 2000 model year FZJ79 base model with approx 90,000 miles. One owner truck used by Saudi Department of the Interior for 24 years as an insect abatement spray truck, with low miles but a little rough around the edges. As with police and fire vehicles, this truck likely spent many hours at low speeds. The spray rig below is not our truck but you can get a sense that this rig wasn't doing 100KPH on the highway most of its life.

WHY
Every guy should have a pick-up or ute. In the early days of my life as a parts/accessories guy, we (the business) had a FJ75 JDM fire truck. Imported by Wayne Smith @crushers to Canada with the help of Dave Steadman @Japan4X4. The fire service body removed before shipment and replaced by Wayne with a very nice aluminium tray. Loved it but when we moved to Idaho, from Whidbey Island, it was adopted by Georg and now lives in Stockton. The 79 is the replacement hauler/Sunday driver. Here is the 75 for reference. Hauled a bunch of pallets with that thing.

WHO / WHERE
The team for this project includes @Meshal in Saudi Arabia, tracking down the truck and getting it acquired, repaired/restored (including Terrain Tamer HD clutch kit) and ready to ship; @wngrog who imported the 79 and trucked it to his compound in Canton, MS. After a month at the ranch, Nolen is now cooking up a batch of Land Cruiser awesome; that is supported by @orangefj45 and the crew at Terrain Tamer North America with shipments of brake upgrades, heavy swivel repair kit, Aisin locking hubs and a complete Terrain Tamer parabolic suspension with Smart Coils and Fortified shock absorbers. As with all his builds, Nolen is filming while wrenching with stunning results in both fields. He will post up in this thread as stuff gets done.

WHEN / HOW
This project began in May, 2024 and will end whenever....

Thanks, Onur. Apparently the system doesn't like one of the black color options. When a white style user (me) sees text the default is black. And the black style users (you/Nolen apparently) the text default is white. I will edit and try to revert that paragraph to same as When/How para above.

OK, what I have learned.....
I had to change to dark background to see/fix the issue. The system offers several white or apparent white font color choices. If you change colors in a post apparently the wrong white won't show up for black background format users. My original post now working in both styles.
Same issue presented in my signature panel.

Selected a new font color which resolved for black background, but now I cannot see text in that paragraph or my sig line. I'll figure it out....

I can’t remember all parts but it was so satisfying to see all of those parts in one truck.

This engine is so new. we kept thr crank and the block and replaced pistons with almost everything new in the head too.

Gladly the truck didn’t get any rust inside the cooling system but all pumps are new with a new oil cooler too.

Very cool that the rear subtank is the same size as the front tank.

I had to put 5 gallons in the main to trust the 10 miles to town. I think that was a wise decision.

Shiny inside and out.
I think it would have easily hit 120

My license has room for some more points. Faster than a 2UZ 100!

Before & After New
@Meshal has some grit - personally and professionally. If you ask, he will go to almost any lengths.
Here is the dash and AC/Heater box before and after.

BEFORE - as bad as any 25 year old farm truck - dust, dirt, twigs, leaves, insect mummies and zero rust.
AFTER - like new with rebuilt guts and a thorough clean.

Buying any 25 year old truck will bring some cleaning, maintenance, repair, etc. but the Gulf countries are a little different.

As we add to this thread you will see that every surface inside and out was replaced, painted or cleaned. That includes the systems that clean the air that go into my old lungs. Old man, old lungs, old truck - but updated in all respects.
The management of this project, along with reasonably priced OEM parts plus knowledgable Toyota technicians made all the difference.

Let's get this party started.

The 79 has the most rediculous leaf spring pack I've dealt with yet. Not as thick as a troopy but at least 12" longer.

This is the heaviest elliptical I've installed at 77#

The stock pack is 93#

Hello,

Yes, you can hit 120 without much effort. In a post-1999, 1FZ-FE-powered 70 Series, it is better to watch your right foot. Ask me how I know.

Some models are electronically limited at 180 km/h or 112 mph. A market-specific feature, I guess.

By the way, fuel mileage decreases by roughly half if you sustain over 130 km/h or 81 mph.

Last but not least, wait to see how first and second gear, low range, feel off road.
