Ok so I purchased a set of Staun beadlocks but I need a rim 17" x 9.5 to 12"
Anyone know where to find rims with a better backspacing than 4.5 preferably a 2.5 to 3. Also, anyone have pics of their 40 with 17's? Am I asking too much? lol

I don't know if this helps, but I special ordered (5) 17x9 black rockcrawler rims with 2.5 backspacing from Americas Tires. It took about 5 weeks for them to be delivered. I'm putting 37" radial Irok swampers on them. I think they look great.

17"""" You will have to have them custom made.

Heres a pic of mine with some 17x9 Brute B201's and 315/70/R17 (35x12.5) Mickey Thomson MTZ's which are usally on my 4Runner. The backspacing didn't suit it at all, but I dont mind the look of the 17s on it.

17" rIMS

If you are using stock steering backspacing shouldn't be an issue. 17" is enough width to clear your rotors and steering components. I ran stock steering with my 17" 4.5 back spacing with no problem untill I upgraded to 4x4 Labs Crossover steering. Then I had to add wheel spacers to clear the drag link to the right wheel.

Good Luck.

i went to a very well known rim and tire shop in knoxville to find some 17's for my 40 and i got the manager guy some how and he said he's had alot of trouble fitting rims on fj40's. i'd only had my fj40 for about a week so i didnt know much about them yet, he said the drum gets in the way or something. Ive seen cruiser with these rims so its not impossible unlike what he told me. Has anyone seen the DC-1 rim by mickey thompson, its chrome and black, thats what i was looking for.

I have disc brakes and 4x4 labs hi steer kit. would like a 2.5 b.s. Also, I was hoping to get some chrome or polished type rims.

Supposedly, less tire means less bounce and better grip. Anyone else??

less sidewall = more stability and less chance of the tire causing your truck to hop from the sidewall. This is a mute point if your suspension causes the hop. There is a fine line about the ratio or rim to sidewall. 37's and 17's steps pretty close, you'll be alright with the beadlocks thou, I liked the combo. 40s is mo better though.

rims get pretty beat up with the 37 17 combo

I'm running 39.5 iroks now on 15" I might bump up to the new 41.5" Iroks but not sure if I want the added strain.
Anyone else have any thoughts on the staun internal beadlocks?

I never had a problem with me 17" coming of the rim at 5 psi but I have lost some air on off camber spots but my rims don't get rock rash. If you run stauns you will never have a that problem. 17" do well on side hills you don't get tire flex in the side wall. I run the Rubicon with a roof rack and take it in to some off camber spots I need all the support I can get.

Check out my fig.

I'm running 17X8" USWheel with 3.5 backspacing. I ran them with drums and now with discs without any problems.
My rims only have a couple of small scratches on them but the chrome job is horrible they started to rust less than a year after I got them. I run about 8psi with 37" IROK's.
Nice fig! lol
I like the rims but if I recall your not the only one that has had issues with USWheel.

I had a very different experience. I lost a bead every time I went out. One day 3 beads, I think I was running 8psi, but our trails wedge and peal tires off rims. 40s on 17s are a different story, I haven't officially lost a bead yet with 40s and I run 4 psi. Stauns are badass when I finally get beadlocks that is what I'll get. I think they only make 41s in radial, I would not wheel a radial irok. I would run 39.5s on 17s, its pretty much the most tire you can fit on a 40 before you need to move the wheelwells.
