Its out picked it up last night. Fuel has been turned down a little but the collosal grunt is still there. All the new gauges work except the oil temp gauge its faulty. Engine runs at 66c on the highway at 110k

Monday morning into the jungles of johor with by then about 600k on the new engine.

Toomorrow need to fit a new compressor when I tested it last night it wouldnt blow up a paper bag sigh. No air no locker no 4x4 engage disengage or god winch freespool.

Oh what a feeling toyota

well its done about 3000k since the rebuild then I lent it to the australians to go on the 2013 RFC with.

Smoking grey smoke on startup we think aneroid needs aome adjustment as it dissappears when warm. POssibly from chopping the intercooler down when we fitted the GOD winch a few years back. On startup also idles at about 500RPM looks like an injector is missing but we have had them cleaned and checked during the rebuild and reinstalled :(.

It came back 10 days later
Alternator died in the deep water rebuilt
Rear 3rd brake light busted off
Fridge plug needs to be wedged in to work :(
GOD winch jammed (20 mins with hammer and WD40 fixed it)
Front chassis towing pigtail ripped out along with chassis nuts
Wipers broken and now only drivers side working
Inside wet from the constant rain and driving through flooded roads
Engine mount nut missing
will not turn off needs to be stalled

I need some assistance with the not turn off which appeared to start after the alternator was repaired. I have discovered that turning the ignition off and then moving gear lever to reverse turns the engine off immediately nothing else will work apart from stalling.

We have played and checked wiring cannot see it can anyone offer clues - short etc we have check the wiring and yes the current remains when we turn off the ignition. Disconnecting the relevant circuit plug does stop it starting we tested that also

Well after the 2013 Rainforest Challenge (RFC) the truck was returned to me in a bit of a mess.

So it went to the kind doctor at Rawang 4x4 hospital

with the unbelieveable issue yes it will will not shut down the engine unless you turn the key off and then put the gear lever towards reverse.

Turns out it was the alternator when the repaired the alternaator after filling it with muddy water which caused the brushes to sieze up they put the wrong alternator in resulting in it not turing off?

$700rm (or 200+USD) for a brand new toyota 100+amp alternator fixed the issue.

The window wipers also repaired with new motor and new mechasim fitted.

Me banging away for 20 minutes with WD40 and and big hammer fixed the jammed GOD winch how they jammed it I will never know.

Then I happened to ask the doctor have you any rims i need 4-5 as the current Steelies cannot be balanced anymore one needs 2.95kg and 3.05kg on it to balance it and the car shakes still 60-80k even after the balancing and swapping around of rims. Wow he had a set of original toyota rims. Bargin price was offered.

So I fitted them (the old steelies in bad shape bent and dents all over them) and wow what a transformation. RED now steers nicely and appears to be lighter on the steering to drive.

Here it is looking "nice" and regal with its new sneakers

The smoking issue needs the fuel pump to be sent to SABAH for a checkup it looks like it is overfueling just off idle and starts up running at about 430 revs (according to digital tacho)
till it's warm.
Next jungle trip this weekend a softy camping get together after that I do not know as my "boss" in HK has decided I cannot do any weekend activities or annual leave for 5 months starting MARCH as we lost 2 staff from my techo team and I must be available 24 hours for support. What I said to him cannot be repeated in public lol.

Nice rebuild, Lately I've been reading many of your posts on the 13B-t....

I'm starting a rebuid myself,, I want to get a few extra ponies as well, but something not as radical as a fuel pump change like yours. (add a bit of estra fuel, and some extra pressure, and an intercooler) this is the thread i just started as this will be what will power my future project for travelling the world.

any tips on the parts you used? i need to change pistons, sleeves, etc. Are alfin pistons a better choice than what i have searched in australia? any imput would be great.

BTW, I'm new to the forum (seen it for years but just now decided to be a member) Cheers!

Max

Alfin type pistons are the way to go, they have a reinforced ring land. Pretty much everything else standard type parts are good, IMO upgrade the turbo, run 20-25psi boost with a intercooler, 3'' exhaust and enjoy happy days.

Dig the sexy originals.....they are only 7"
