Hi,
I was wondering if the 13B-T was ever imported into Canada or was it strictly a JDM engine. The reason I ask is that I want to do a diesel swap into my FJ40 and was wondering about parts availability. Thanks.:D

Sorry to hijack ...just noticed you live in Humboltd county. I've been down there a few times doing some work for Simpson. The Lost Coast Brewery is a nice pub, and the Sea Grill Restaurant......best damn chowder I've ever had!

now back to your regularly scheduled programming.

The 13B-T shares many parts with the Canadian 3B. The most ovious differences have to do with the head, of course...the 3B using pre-cups and being indirect injected while the 13B-T is direct injected. The injectors are going to be different, but there's no reason why a good diesel shop wouldn't be able to service them. A lot of consumable parts like gaskets and belts etc. can still be bought at Canadian Toyota dealers, and parts importers like G&S and 4WheelAuto have a good seleection of parts to support the JDM motors.

The 13B-T was never available as an option to Canadian diesel Cruisers.

Keep your 40 stock :) Also the 3b-t is not a strictly jdm engine. It came in many different markets one of them was not canada though.

This swap wouldnt be for a while. I am just planning ahead. I would like to keep it stock but I want to be able to take trips in it, really enjoy the cruiser for what it is.

Yeah, after seeing how wicked fast your cruiser was with its 3B I knew I had to have a diesel.:D I wont be able to buy one for a while but I am trying to figure out things before hand. Hope things are going well in crappy socal.

Quick quesiton, can the 13B-T be fitted to a toyota 4 speed tranny? I would think that the H55 tranny would be a little too long for an FJ40.

The B diesels need there own 4 sp or 5 sp.

The H55 was available in a 40 in some markets. It takes some mods but others have done it
Ive have seen factory 5 sp fitted to 2H diesels in HJ45 which take up the same space as an F motor.

So the B engines need diesel specific toyota 4 speeds(H41) and 5speeds. Thanks for the info.

lolz yeah, I almost beat you with your F... Just wait til I turbo it!

SoCal is good. It's warmer here, the 3B loves it...

Back to tech, RE: tranny. I believe you will also have to move a frame crossmember if you go with the longer H55, but I would not want it any other way. Who knows though with your 1966 frame, have to measure. I've put a lot of freeway miles on the cruiser in the last couple weeks and some mild wheeling. Between the two, the H55 is sweet cuz you got the high and the low gearing...

There are a few folks (e.g. Mainer7) who have put 13BT+H55F drivetrains in petrol 40s so I would talk with them. Or get a rusted out BJ60, swap in the 3B+H55F and then junkyard turbo it, saves some $$$ and you would have the complete donor vehicle and everything would be 12v I believe.

HTH
