I have a 2001 LC and my stereo goes on and off and center electronics sometimes do not work.... when I place pressure on the fuse bax located by left foot upper section when driving the electrics turn on..... recently the LC will not start, it cranks but will not turn over.... Brought to dealer and being charged like 600+ for the fuse box and 700+ for install. Maybe off a bit on each but know the total is over 1300+$. This is crazyiness or is it.... please tell me this is what it is and just move on or was there a cheaper way to get out of this? They are doing the work now and told me this "should solve the car not starting problem" ..... my fear is after 1300+ out the window the stereo will stay on but the truck still will not start. Again it cranks fine but just won't turn over.... any recall or anything that could help me with this fuse box replace issue? Thanks all!

could I have gotten this box cheaper?

Dude,

It's like too late or something, as you already got ripped off.....

As for the truck not starting:

-Are the battery terminals clean?
-Check the battery ground..
-Is the battery/alternator good?

thanks

yes checked the below. I was hoping to get some data in case I was getting jacked when I go to pick up the truck at least I can push back,,,, was curious if this fuse box problem is common and if so is this really the best fix... I can't believe how much this is. Spending big money for brakes I was prepared for but 1300+ for this seems excessive IMO.

Things worked again as he pushed on and off the fuse box.

Not to discourage you either, but the main (only?) cable harness that goes through the firewall penetrates just in front of that fuse box. So, it might not be the box per se, but a broken wire.

Have not heard of this problem at all, but with electrical gremlins, all is possible.

If you are not to uncomfortable poking your head down there, you can easily remove the plastic "scrowd" that goes from the front lower seal of the driver side door, passes the black foot rest, and is locked down with a plastic nut in front of it. The plastic nut comes off easily, you have to wiggle the shrowd a bit in order to get it out of the way, but once done, you'll have full access to all wires down there (and there is a lot...).

Added (forgot): You have of course to lift the plastic protector that is covering the door sill. It lifts out easily once you grab it. Two or three (can't remember) plastic snaps.

And as with all interior work and plastic snaps, don't do it in the cold.

Good luck.

If it's at the dealer it's too late, this has been reported before and IIRC there is a TSB for problems with the fuse box, whether it is related to this one I don't know. Someone has fuse box problems recently and unplugged it and blew out the connectors and away OK. There has been trouble with water leaks that run down and short or corrode connections on the fuse box, and also metal shavings left in connectors during assembly. Try searching for fues box in recent posts.
MAke sure you get the old fuse box back, someone else may be able to us it in the future as there actually may not be much wrong with it if it s not too corroded or the metal filings were in the harness connector.
Ask about a TSB on this.
