What are my options.
My dads getting a HZJ73 (JDM) and its 24v
he has a 85 BJ70 (12v) and he wants to run that winch on
the 73. What are his options?

not sure what its called we had a road grader where i worked that started on 24v and ran on 12.i got a solenoid from a semi that worked great and a wiring digram from 4 a wheeler mag.but that was 10 years ago and i left the mag there when i retired.good luck

When I got my BJ42 I looked into converting a Warn 8274 from 12v to 24v. The folks at Warn said I needed to replace the motor and four solenoids. I was going to buy the parts, but found a used 24V 8274 instead. I think Warn has the parts you need.
Hope that helps,
Happy Trails! N

I've just posted about the solenoid pack in the diesel/24V subforum on mud. Anyhow, to re-iterate, the solenoids in a 24V 8274 are 12V, the coils are wired as series pairs to make them work reliably off 24V. So, in fact, all you need is a 24V motor and a few minutes to rewire/reconnect the coils on the solenoid pack. I did the reverse conversion, I had a 24V 8274 on my 24V diesel Patrol and get fed up with the 24V bull**** and fully converted the vehicle to 12V. I bought a new 12V motor for my 8274 and converted it to 12V - pretty easy job to do (the winch conversion...)

You can see the winch specific stuff about 1/2 way down:

MQ 24V to 12V retrofit

cheers,
george.
