Another thought, Australia, Canada and New Zealand need to come back to Imperial measurements. Us and England are all lonely! I mean we all speak the sane language, like the same stuff, and drink the same beer.
I lived in Canadia for 2 and a half years and worked in framing and as an engineer. They might be officially metric but pretty much everything I worked on was imperial. I used to convert everything to metric and do my calcs with the metric system and convert the answer to imperial. Much easier that way :)

Cheers Spudman, I might take you up on that :) Won't be for a while tho cos I got a kid on the way...
I've only been in your "winter". We did the Gibb river road, El Questro, Mitchel falls etc. Been to a lot of places in WA and NT but in my opinion the Kimberley is the best out of what I've seen. And being a local you probably know a lot more nice spots around there.

Good luck on your install tomorrow. No progress on mine cos I'm waiting to get it painted. I already have a pyro in my car and I bought a boost gauge and turbotech v2 boost controller last weekend so hopefully I get them soon and can do the install.

Yeah I've been here 3 years and feel like a local, but I haven't even travelled the Gibb River yet, it's on my list, been everywhere else though. :)

So I did an install on my 12ht on Saturday. I bought an engine guardian thermofan controller that senses the temperature on both the hot and cold side of the intercooler (so I can work out efficiency) and you can also set the temperature that you want the thermofan to switch on and off. I have an over ride switch as well so I can manually on the fan. The fan really sucks the air through well. I haven't had a chance to really drive it yet but for now I have the fan set to on at 50 degrees c and off at 45. I bought a VDO boost gauge to match my VDO egt, but as you can see they don't match too well :( My bad. Not the nices gauge mounting bracket but I might change to a gauge cup.

Hi Ali

Install looks awesome mate, so where did you mount the fan, or am I missing something in the photo:bang:

Can you please put up a link to the fan, as I'd like to do something like, I still haven't installed my cooler yet, ATM I am getting everything else done first, I'll be installing my pyro and boost gauge tomorrow, then I'll be installing my manual boost gauge and then fitting my 3 inch exhaust .

So once I've got all that in place I'll install the cooler.:D

Also where did you get the rubber sealer for your bonnet scoop, as if have the scoop I just don't have the rubber surround to seal it.

 Spudman

Looks like I'm gonna have to go all out to impress then :rimshot:

Yeah every time he shows off his engine I wanna get a tooth brush and some petrol and start scrubbing:grinpimp:

Cheers mate. The fan is underneath the intercooler. Its bolted to the shroud that wraps under the intercooler. It is a spal 11'' low profile curved blade thermofan (30100411). I wouldn't bother with the curved blade tho - its meant to be quieter at the expense of pumping more air. I doubt you would hear the "noisier" straight blade fan over the old 12ht so I'd rather have more air :) I got it from Canada, so I'm not sure where to source one over here.
I got the rubber from clark rubber - it is pinchweld from the tail gate of a gemeni I think.
Yea I'm gona put a 3'' exhaust in and should really check my head bolts (maybe I'm paranoid) before I install the boost controller.
Keep up your good work too mate

Na I don't think my car is all that neat - maybe the photo does a good job of making it look better than it is :) I'm not too scared to take it off road anyway. Although I wish I got a chance to go out a bit more.

Thanks Ali, I'll check them out

This is awesome! I just picked up my HJ61 and am working on the basics right now. Replacing heater hoses getting a baseline for all my maintenance, suspension, arb bumper, and the likes.

I'm dreaming of an Intercooler and more boost. Thanks for the posts and the updates Spudman you rock!

Please make sure you smooth out and clean the inside of that intake tube before you put it on your motor. I've seen a lot of pictures of turbos that have eaten weld slag and other crap. It's a painful and expensive lesson to learn.

Do you intend to pressure test the intake tube prior to installation?

Thanks mate, yep will do, I've cleaned most of it out already.

I hadn't intended on pressure testing it, do you think it's really worth it

No offense, but the welds look porous in the pic you posted above. It would be frustrating to get everything all installed just to find out that you've got boost leaks :D

No worries mate, no offence taken, I don't think the photos do it any justice, but just to sure I'll do a pressure test.

Thanks for advice

Finally hooked up my intercooler today :D But I wanted to wait till I had the 3 inch exhaust on and fitted the pyro and boost gauge

And in this pic you can see where how I secured the factory boost gauge and the aftermarket gauge

Still gotta make one more bracket to secure the right side and then all that's left is to cut the bonnet and fit the scoop

 Spudman

Fitted up my intercooler today

And this where I connected my boost gauge

Now just gotta cut the hole in the bonnet and mount the scoop
