so...., back to trip talk, does anyone have any pre/post HIH overlanding plans?
Any camping setups/hacks you would recommend or not do again?
I'm always looking to steal good ideas
I'm pulling my m416 trailer with a RTT again. Only change is the addition of a hot water setup. I still need to put all of my eletrical stuff together in a trailer tongue toolbox for camp power.
I normally dont bring the annex room because it would be too low with the RTT mounted on trailer lid and I dont have the extended opening (bought the tent on sale at the CVT location in Chattanooga, TN). I do have a CVT shower tent that doubles as a bathroom tent but may design a simple hoop with shower curtain to mount off the roof rack.Do you run the annex room on your tent?
If so, get these: Amazon product ASIN B0774FLM2P
If you don't have the annex room, get one. Was super nice to be able to crawl down my ladder into an fully enclosed room where I had my chair and table setup along with all my gear. If you don't have an awning mounted off the other side, get one. Makes a HUGE difference. I just added a 4 foot awning to the back of my trailer so I can use the tailgate for cooking in bad weather.
I have a mat and a section of astroturf I put down for showering, but I'll try to find something similar to those stones. I have some of these we use in our 21' grady-white in Orange Beach, so I may grab one to try out.I put those as "stepping stones" outside my annex and they make walking on wet/muddy ground so much better.
Other than that, sounds like you're in the same boat as me. I'm adding water this year and doing my electrical more proper. Looking at my onboard tank options. Might just do the 2 5gal water cans on the front of the trailer. I ordered the Joolca instant hot water setup, but shipping from Australia has been delayed. Beauty of it is that it has a multi stage filter and a very long lead that can be run to nearby water sources such as streams and ponds. The filter supposedly is rated to removed all heavy metals (important in CO) and 99.9% of bacteria and microbes. Should be fine for showering. Will finally add a true inverter and marine grade battery to the trailer in the next week along with some "cabin" lights and waterproof switches.
@aaronrules ..... Thunderbirds just flew over my hood. Figure you'd appreciate the sound of the Block 52 F100-PW-229
Which run/trail goes to Bridal Veil Falls?
We were at HIH9 and didn't go on this run. Maybe it was cancelled because of the snow last year. But it's a must-do for this year. Want to make sure I know what to sign up for when the runs are announced.
Right on. Everyone in our rig enjoys the old structures and that power station sitting next to a huge waterfall is really cool! That trail has never been on an HIH that I'm aware of. Black Bear runs just below. Pretty sure the trail that goes "to" Bridal Veil is for workers only.

It’s always been wild to me that @aaronrules wouldn’t hesitate to wrench on a jet engine but won’t touch the front end of a 100 because he’s afraid he’ll mess it up!!!![]()
