what is the weight of the aluminum set up?

did not expect him to ever offer aluminum after some of the conversations on FJC forum (blue) when Rasta skids were being touted by some as a good alternative especially if you dont do heavy wheeling...even though Athena wheeled her FJC in MOAB, RUBICON, Ouray, etc....and beat the hell out of it. LOL

The weight savings is a significant reason especially if you only encounter serious rocks a couple times a year....

Glad more options are coming available....

That is some SERIOUS weight difference. Just curious if the belly plate will be offered in it. You shave 31lbs vs steel just on the front and 22 on the inter.

Edited: Got excited and left my keyboard behind!

Nice! Wish he had those when I bought the steele one from him

Is there an issue mixing aluminum and steel ones? ...in terms of aluminum reacting with other metals, etc.?

I was thinking of adding an aluminum intermediate plate (as it rarely/never takes any real hits, but as a form of insurance something is better than nothing.)

Are y'all seeing the 50ish lbs is a significant advantage? That's like a 0.7% savings on a fully loaded rig. If rocks are in the mix, steel seems like it's much happier sliding. My $0.02

Why powdercoating instead of black anodizing?

Maybe cost is the reason. But I wasn't sure why AL needed any coating to begin with. I defer to someone with more metal experience.

only reason I know of is aluminum is softer so you dont SLIDE off rocks like hardened steel...it drags and has more friction...so maybe the coating helps you slide off obstructions a bit better.

Romer.... you know me, I'm always happy to take your used parts off your hands! :hhmm: I'll run those steel ones with pride, I have no shame. These new ones sure are nice though!

Every pound counts AFAIC. As far as aluminum vs steel I just want some extra insurance incase I take a bad line. If I'm sliding my truck along the skids then I'm doing it wrong. :) If I do do it wrong I'll gladly destroy a skid plate vs the tranny. This thing isn't built for rock crawling. Been there, Done that already.
