That is very similar to what I have in mind for the 100 series. There are some distinct differences though. And he does not offer one currently for the 100 series. He didn't even offer one when that thread was done, if you read it, that was a prototype. I think I did get my original idea from the one he offers for the tacoma. I had mentioned earlier in my thread that I had seen something similar but could not remember who made it.

Thanks guys. I think this is going to be a very clean design for the 100 series. I can't take all the credit though. I had seen one similar on a tacoma a couple years back but I'm not sure who made it. I'm still trying to find the best prices on the extrusions. So far they are going to cost me about $45 each load bar. I'm also looking into a roof rail that would bolt and seal to the roof and the rack would mount to that. Then the rack would be easy to remove if needed and you wouldn't have to mess with the seal.
Here you go.

I am just giving you a hard time Benc. I am the owner of prinsu and have been doing the racks primarily for tacomas and Fjs for awhile but hadn't messed much with the older cruisers.

I don't have anything for the 100 series ready yet so it is good to see

Somebody doing something with the concept. It is a good option to save money and give people a good product.

Haha, well you build a nice rack! I am going to build one for mine but if you are going to be offering them for the 100 series in the near future let me know. I think I saw your original on a tacoma and thought it was a great idea.

Dang.... my Gobi is enroute but I like where this is headed..... I like the 80 rack that they proto-typed.... and benc yours looks very much in line with that - clean design as expected......

Your killing me Ben. I already bought your front bumper, now I have to buy this rack. Your also talking about a rear bumper. I may have to give you a kidney or something.

Indeed. Roof rack and sliders are the next additions for me. I love the low profile aerodynamic direction this rack is going.

Myself, I don't care for extruded cross bars. ~1-1/8 tubes with a good wall thickness and threaded inserts on the ends for easy install, removal and adjustment. A few strategically placed cutouts for tie downs... I can see it now. We'll I can see it someday. Perhaps this year?

I'm ready to order a rack for my 100 purchased yesterday....what is status of you being able to build/ship to TX?

^^sorry, no more progress yet. I was really hopping to have a full prototype by 100s in the hills but don't think it will happen. It's still probably 3 months out at best.

Remember that part in the movie "BIG" with tom hanks where he says "I dont get it". I feel like that with this rack. It looks cool but is there anything that goes from side to side to connect the sides? Was that picture just of the side parts before any progress on the in between? If it has an in between expanded metal area i think it would be pretty nice especially with all those side slots for versatile tie down areas. Looks pretty cool!

yeah man - his photo is just showing how the frame rails (the two sides) contour to the roof line seamlessly. There will be something that goes in the middle of those two support - that's the rack part. You dig?
