My dealer wanted to sell me some catalytic converters too. For the same code

I got ems midpipes and Doug thorley cat back

About 4 months of driving - no code

winning.

Killing me. Keeping the truck. I can flip it to standard suspension for $1700. I'd have to put a lift on anything I bought anyway, just not worth the hassle.

I did take it for a long drive after work today. Something is def not right. It's sluggish, and there is a notable stutter during acceleration through all gears...

Gas cap is tight. O2 sensor wouldn't cause this, right?

Sent from my iPhone using IH8MUD, and hopefully approved by the NSA.

You have a dual bank system. Your 1st two sensors are actually air-fuel ratio sensors (before cat) and the 2nd two (after the cats) measure catalyst efficiency.

Any of them could be the problem but you would have codes. Even though you clear your codes they could still be stored historically or be "pending" codes.

I doubt it's the cats. Sounds more like coils, plugs, or sensors. Or vacuum leak--cracked manifolds or from your PCV system.

Plugs were replaced 5k miles ago when I did the 90k service. I have no ticking from my manifolds.

Truck drove perfectly this morning, so go figure. Gonna chew on it a few days...

EMS mid-pipe setup ordered, $637 shipped. 1 cat per side, no resonator.

Hardest part of the swap for me was removing the old midpipes from the manifolds.

The EMS is high quality stuff - you'll like it.

If you keep the factory cat-back - there will hardly be a change in the exhaust volume too (I ran just the midpipes for a few weeks).

And...the way that EMS mounts the downstream O2 sensor keeps it from throwing cat insufficiency codes.

I'm looking at putting some Moroso mufflers in my midpipes. The resonators don't seem to do anything. Smart move skipping them IMO.

Did the light come back on?

No, hasn't come back on. So I probably don't need this. But now I want it... :). Seriously I'm probably being paranoid, but the truck has been a little 'off' over the last few weeks. It started on the way back from CO. Went from getting 13-14mpg per tank to 11. And it's in the 10's here around town now, where it used to be high 11's, low 12's. Not smooth through acceleration. I had attributed this to the high temps, but now I'm not so sure.

If I'm imagining all this and turns out installing the EMS stuff is nothing more than peace of mind I'm cool with it.

I remember you saying that on the way back but thought we might have just bought some crappy gas in CO. :hmm:

I'm waiting on the EMS long tube headers to solve my ticking manfolds and replace the midpipes (if they ever come out with them .)

I don't know where you're located but, ill be in Jackson today if you want to hear ems + catback

so you just rationalized the repair/mod?
I have done that way to many times...

We are thinking of upgrading the wife's pink panty mobile to a 100 series.

Can we get something decent, with under 100k miles, for under $15? She doesn't need/want anything beyond the stock truck.

Are there any years to stay away from?

Love my 100. I think had I just left it alone and driven it 100% stock, wouldn't have had a single issue yet. But oh well...

Finding one for $15k with less than 100k miles is gonna be tough. Will probably have to go back to the older years for that. And supposedly the 2000 year model has a higher tranny failure rate than other years. 2003+ has 5 speed and a few other updates. 2006-2007 have VVTi and (stay away from) AHC.

I wouldn't hesitate to buy one with 150k miles...
