We are thinking of upgrading the wife's pink panty mobile to a 100 series.

Can we get something decent, with under 100k miles, for under $15? She doesn't need/want anything beyond the stock truck.

Are there any years to stay away from?

Cam, that is really debatable. I like the 98 and 99 years since no nav and a small rate of tranny problems. Might be hard to find one with the miles you want. The early 2000s seem to have more tranny problems than the later years. I think a nav display can run well over 1000 bucks if it goes out but it's rare. I think you buy the cleanest, lowest mileage and best well cared for 100 you can find that's in your budget and hope for the best. The rest is a crap shoot.

Word.

From DNP.....my opinion is they are super conservative on that interval.

Your engine's about to hit 180K or your T-belt (or both). My 2000 was sold to me as having a T-belt at 90,000 miles; however, I later determined it was probably original. It was quickly changed (at 170,000 miles), and even though it certainly wasn't new, it didn't look like it was anywhere near failure (visually, that is). Everyone knows the consequences if one DOES break, but apparently, there is a LOT of "extra life" built into these belts. Speaking of that, does anyone know of an instance where a 100 T-belt has actually failed? Oooops, sorry Nolen. Just noticed this is in the Picture of the Day thread and not 100 tech.........well, I didn't start the discussion.

Have had a Sequoia towed into the shop with a broken timing belt. Valves were bent as a result. The main issue with the 4.7's in the timing belt area is the water pump. Every one I have had torn down had pink crust around the weep hole on the pump. The leak may be minor but over time or long trips can cause the timing belt to be coated with antifreeze which in turn weakens the rubber of the belt because it will be absorbed by any exposed threads in the belt. Hate to turn the 100 series thread into tech but just a little something to think about.

Do you just guess at the year of the truck?

That's what I was thinking...the 3-4 places that you look at to help ID the year are all either covered up or not pictured.

I sent the guy an email, have a friend that's looking. Will see what he says.

No number = a scam most of the time.

See above...

I would think that would be an 00-01. It is very rare to find an 02 without Nav..It's the old dash so the newest it can be is an 02.

He said 18,100 is clean "retail" so I would say the PP value is closer to 15,500 so 13,900 doesn't seem that far off.

Yeah, but that one is a 6 cylinder.

That shouldn't be a problem, because said it's powerful.......must be a BIG 6 or somethin'..........

Ha ha...Guy really know about his "luxury SUV" He probably performs all his own maintenance too!
