Or a smaller truck.

That is my point and it was directed at Bomar.

He has learned this lesson in his 62 and now that he has talked his WIFE into buying a DD 100 series he needs to keep it off the trails that need skidplates.

In my opinion, the 100 makes a great trail rig. If you can figure out how to use all the electronic gizmos its amazing. In all honesty it's just to big and clumsy, if you get it into a pinch, you will have a bad day (damage, broken drivetrain, etc). The 100 was designed for s***ty remote areas. Not crawling up 4' ledges on Kodak Rock at URE. It takes a dumb ass (me) to drag it through boulder fields. If I had the financial funds I would probably sell my 100 and buy a 80. I've just poured to much into the 100 at this point and too much damage/irreversible modifications to warrant a change in vehicles, and add college budget to that. So I'm stuck with the 100, I'm not saying it's a bad thing, I'm saying the 100 Series platform doesn't really fit my wheeling style, so I have to make it fit my style, and the trails I run. Even though it doesn't fit through the trails and doesn't fit my wheeling style it's what I have and I make it work

Diagnosis help....weird noise

Noticed it three days ago under 20 mph where sound can bounce of a fence or wall.

Sounds like metal on metal rubbing. I thought it was axle related but when foot is taken off gas and coasting noise goes away?

So what on the accelerator linkage or drivetrain would squeal like metal on metal grinding. Slight noise but consistent.

Any ideas ?

Is it a consistent sound or is it intermittent, like "wah, wah, wah...?" May sound stoopid, but have you checked all four sets of brake pads?

Not stupid. That's a start. U joint?

Had a similar noise recently. Pulled the wheel and a rock fell out that had gotten wedged I guess between the caliper and the wheel...

Sent from my iPhone using IH8MUD

Will check pads and wheels. I would have all ready but its not constant. Only when on gas? It's a steady whirring metallics noise almost like rubbing 2 pieces of metal together.

Like rocks slowly rolling around in a coffee can.

Here we go. 10 pages to follow! I sure am glad I have a 40! Check oil and put gas in her and go.

sell that 40 to me and get something else. you need something to complain about.

I have a 40 here at the house that you need. A 77 that needs restoring. 2F and mostly stock. Come make the deal with my FIL.

ok I had a PRONOUNCED thud going from neutral to drive....thinking on the way to work that it may be the driveshaft slowly grinding on something? will check....10 pages to follow.

you just worry about that BIRD CANNON there El Presidente

Maybe the clutch for the on-board espresso machine is locked up?
I checked that and the foot massager sleeve joint and the sandwich maker (you know that fuse blows frequently)

do tell...where is it from, color, running?

Thud is likely driveshaft grease.

Do it again.

I am immediately when I get home. It was a harder shift, louder thunk than I have ever had.

not overly worried but concerned as any metal on metal ain't good.
I would agree with checking brakes, rotors but the noise goes away when not on the skinny pedal.....very odd.

im finding a long building and listening to it more after work.

lets all pray for option B

Shush, it's at my house. Not running but was when he parked it. Needs carb work and a total restore. Everything is there and it's a pretty solid truck. No real rust issues.
