I replaced my timing belt a year and a half ago, and shredded it on a move from Colorado to Utah. The engine is toast and I plan to swap the motor. I am not a mechanic and hope to find someone well-equipped to make it happen. My unit is a 2004 4.7 liter and I am interested in improving the power with an upgrade to a 5.7 tundra engine. Is this even possible, and how much modification needs to be done to accommodate the different engine?

My understanding is that anything is possible if you have enough money and brains to do it. That being said to accomplish your desired swap you’ll have spent the same amount that buying an older 200 series would cost. Another option is to try and hunt down a supercharger for the 4.7 and put it on a replacement 4.7..

My guess is that you could repair and sell the 100 then buy a 200 for the cost of paying someone to swap 5.7 into the 100.

"Shredded" Timing belt on the 04 2UZ-fe did not likely "toast" the engine!

How much money you got?

Just buy a Tundra or a 200 series. You might be in luck and your motor is still good.

100 series is a 22 year old platform and nobody has yet to even offer a stronger front diff. I highly doubt you'll get any real feedback about an entire drivetrain swap to a 5.7L.

How did it “shred”??? As @2001LC noted, odds are the engine is not toast if the belt broke.

I’ve got a good engine pulled from wrecked 100. $600 shipped. Long block no accessories I take or starter nows the time to reseal rebuild the starter and have a solid engine for another 20 years.
Also I bet what you have is salvageable. Why toast? What happened.
