I have an '04 Land Cruiser so this isn't for mine unfortunately... This is a dash bezel for the earlier model 100 series, I think 98-2000?

Well that is pretty fancy? Do you have LTE on it or a mifi? For internet?

Looks pretty neat, be sure to post some photos once everything is finished!

How bout the new iphablet ;) bet that would fit nicely! Granted haven't seen the release yet so who knows :)

No... that's about what the Apple stream sounded like yesterday. They blew it.

Oh my god...seriously! Dropped the connection like 10 times!

I've done this in my other car as a permanent mount. Heck the ipad mini LTE is still cheaper than most aftermarket NAVs and has waaay more functionality/resolution. Works incredibly well and you'd never be able to tell it's retrofitted as the look and fit is like OEM. I personally would have mounted it behind the bezel as the actual viewable screen will be fine through a double din opening. Just need to have access to the home button and nothing more if the ipad is jailbroken with activator to handle the other functions of power on/off etc.

My favorite apps are waze and spotify.

My Ipad is in a Porsche 911, which has a miniature console by comparison. I understand why you may want it removable but integrated is just so nice from a functional and aesthetic point of view. I truly don't treat mine as a tablet. It's a fully integrated full function entertainment/NAV device. I can get in the car and start it up, and it auto wakes and music continues where it left off. It turns on and off with the key just like a regular nav. Charges transparently when I drive and sleeps when I get out. Display dims at night. I just can't imagine it being more tightly integrated which is just such a sweet thing having come from carpc's not all too long ago.

I'll have to check out Gaia and car tunes.

Looks amazing! Now where to find a Porsche so that I can integrate my iPad mini! ;)

@TeCKis300 so if the iPad is a fully functional stereo, whats the point of the Pioneer head unit?

I don't mean to hijack the OP's thread. But I'm not sure how's he going to power the speakers and such so this might have some relevance.

The IPad is used as a display and source. It really doesn't have proper provisions to drive speakers directly as it's inadequate when talking about EQ, time alignment, fade, bass control etc. I've seen other ways to marginally have more control, such as a physical volume knob, to drive amps and stuff...but it's not well integrated and requires some workarounds to use.

The headunit obviously gives me volume and full sound controls in the areas stated above. Furthermore, it gives me a very integrated bluetooth experience. Calls route in, the music fades, and I can pickup/call transparently in the way it's meant to work as if integrated from an OEM. Hangup, and the music resumes. Another critical aspect for seemless integration is it provides power to the IPad. With enough current over USB (Pioneers work especially well in this regard) to keep the IPad charged over even short drives such that i never have to worry about powering/charging the IPad.

Bonus section not necessarily applicable:
Audiophiles - do you hate unnecessary DAC / ADC converters in the stream? The IPad to headunit digital interface is incredible in this regard, and with burr brown DACs that I have in my pioneer DEH-80PRS, as well as a high bit rate stream from spotify. OMG. Clarity that goes for miles.

@TeCKis300 so if the iPad is a fully functional stereo, whats the point of the Pioneer head unit?
He still needs an amp of some sort to drive the speakers. You can mod the mini using the guts of a dock to get optical audio output too. Pretty much guarantee no hiss.

So does the audio work thru the hundy speakers with this setup? If no then how could you integrate it with the speakers? Looks awesome and im interested in one myself

Damn man you do some nice work. Much respect.

Hats off to your fab and finish skills. That looks incredible. Are you using magnets to secure the ipad in there when docked?

That is some great looking work. Have you had it on washboarded roads or bashed it around on trails etc?
