I have not had a good day changing my rotors and fitting 100 pads.

I really should have bought Toyota rotors I think, instead of after market ones, I fitted the new rotors, but when I fitted the brake caliper it rubbed on the rotor!!!! I had to make a 40 thou shim to fit in between the caliper and the knuckle, so the rotor was central to the caliper.

It had to be dead central because I could not get the pads to go in, infact I had to rub the pads on rough emery paper to make them thinner, I had cleaned the calipers up before hand to remove any rust etc.

has anyone had the same probslems I have had.

Are the 100 pads thicker than the 80 pads? the 100 pads I have are 17mm thick

100 Series pads are thicker but they do fit with properly oriented rotors. It sonds as though your rotors are not correct or not seated properly.

I did check to see if they were not seated properly, and they are, I did notice before I took the old rotors off, that the rotor was very close 1/64" away on one side of the caliper and about 1/8" gap the other, so fitting the shim brought it back to the middle, but the 100 pads, even with the pistons pushed right back, its still hard to get the pads in.

I thought perhaps where the bearings push against the shoulder on the hub had worn away, allowing the whole thing to be further over, but on inspection, it looked fine.

They did on mine. (all OEM parts, nothing aftermarket in the mix).

I was told ( by a reliable phone voice from Colorado) that the 100 series pads will not fit with new rotors

That doesn't make me very happy....................

but I'll know for sure when they get here..

Edit: Aha! parts guy to the rescue!!

I have the parts as well ..... just waiting until the current pads wear out (shouldnt be long) and then it's new rotors and pads, all OEM from C-Dan.

Sorry for thread hi-jack, but does anyone know of the 100 series pad fitment on the DBA rotors?

I did 100 series pads on my LX, new rotors, all Toyota parts, and I couldn't fit the anti-squeal shims in. Figured I'd just run them down a little then throw the shims in.

another vote for 100 pads fitting with new oem rotors. it ain't easy but they do fit if you retract the pistons all the way but there is no margin for error and you may need to use a mallet to lightly tap in the inner pad or even a quick pass with a sander. the pads will bind a little on the rotor but that has no effect. the difference in wear rate is amazing. after 25k plus my 100 pads are still thicker than stock 93 pads when brand new. otoh, just looked at a set of 91 pads that I installed new and are now worn out completely at 10k.

and yes I skipped the shims and they have never squealed.

When I did mine (100 series pads with new Toyota rotors) the inside pads were a bear to get in. The DS eventually went in on their own, but the PS just wouldn't go.

What I did, and I'm not sure I'd recommend this, was to loosen the the 17mm (?) bolts that hold the caliper to the knuckle enough that the caliper could move to the inside and the pad could slide in. Then tighten the 17mm bolts back to spec.

Drive it around the block hitting the brakes hard a few times, pull it back in the garage, and retorque the 17mm bolts.

Recheck the bolts after you drive the next time, then at the end of every day for the next 3 or 4 days.

I don't remember having to tighten them again at all, so it may have been that little of a margin that was keeping the pads from going in.

I just went and test drive the LC done the bedding in proceedure for new rotors and pads, fingers crossed they will be ok now. well at least it brakes now without the steering wheel going mad!!!! and the funny slow fast stopping at slow speeds...LOL

just to recapp on what I had to do, on the right hand side I had to fit a 60 thou shim between the brake caliper and knuckle where the caliper bolt goes through, and on the left hand side I had to put a 40 thou shim, this was to make the rotor run central in the caliper, or you will not get the pads to go in, like "shocker" had, I bet his rotors where offset the same as mine, what you will find, is one pad will slide in ok, but the other pad will be damn tight or not even go in at all.

Ditto here. edit...on two different vehicles, '96 and '97.

I suspect the slight offset you found is supposed to be there. I have repeatedly heard from people that the outer 100 pads are easier to fit than the inners which suggests the spacing is not equal. My calipers and rotors were new and this was the case. now you have the pads on why don't you unbolt the calipers, slide out the shims and retighten? any portion of the inner pad rubbing will wear off fast.

Just got my rotors resurfaced and will be throwing in 100 pads tonight. will let you all know how it goes.

100 series pads

Put new 80 series rotors with 100 series pads on last weekend. SWEET!!!! No problems. Make sure if you don't get the parts from Dan that you know what part numbers you want because the monkeys in the parts dept. don't have a clue. They don't think this can be done. We used all oem parts.
