I filled up on Friday with 100% non ethanol fuel. Now my 100 has a check engine light and is running rough. Could the 100% non ethanol fuel have caused the issue? The check engine light begins to blink like it wants to go off but then comes back to solid. Anyone experienced this before? Any ideas on how to correct?

Disconnect battery for 30 min to reset computer and try her again. If that doesn't do it then it could be bad fuel. Was it at a low-volume rural station?

Could it run on 100% ethanol? I hope I did not mess up the cruiser.

Going back to pump now to check.

Gasoline with NO ethanol is referred to as E0 (E-Zero).

I think you filled up with 100% ethanol which is referred to as E100 (E-one hundred).

I would get that ethanol out of your tank as soon as possible - follow that with a fresh fill of E0 gas with a double dose of any of the name brand ethanol treatment additives like Sta-Bil or similar.

100% ethanol can damage seals, o-rings, hoses, fuel pump parts, etc. The sooner you get it all purged from your vehicle the better.

I highly doubt that he filled up with 100% ethanol, mostly because it's not available in the US at your average service station. The very, very few places that have anything over the regular 10% blend have it very clearly marked.

I prefer to run non-ethanol fuel. I get slightly better fuel economy and it's better for the old rubber seals. It's just a pain to find stations that have it around here.

Pull the codes, it's a coil pack and it's coincidence, not the fuel.

Don't put something which is never mentioned in manual. Simple is that. Flush it out and clean your fuel system.

It was 100% non ethanol. Running rough at low rpm. very strange. Lose of power. Could be a coil pack. Got to drive 120 miles home today. Not sure to go or get it fixed down here. May run and get the code read real quick.

A flashing CEL indicates a misfire or pre-ignition.

I wouldn't ignore this as it potentially is damaging to the motor.

I would read the CEL, and reset the ECU by pulling the negative battery cable for a few mins. If the CEL comes right back, depending on the CEL, I would park it and get it fixed asap.

Straight to Toyota on the way out of town. Flashing cel on acceleration.

Family not happy with dad or LC at this point.

Do you know when the gas station had its tanks filled? If it was recently, you might have gotten a bad batch of fuel with water / silt that gets agitated when they refuel. Remember association is not the same as causation. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gasoline_gallon_equivalent

Ethanol I thought had 33% less energy by liquid volume than gasoline, so when they blend it or use it straight up, you actually lose some in mpgs. You would need like 2 gallons of E100 to = 1 gallon of regular gasoline or 1.5 gallons of E85 to = 1 gallon of regular gasoline. I remember seeing E0 stuff in California in the 90's, but in the 2000's in Ohio, WVA, VA, and NC, I have only seen E85.

I think ethanol is cheaper only because of the corn subsidies (here in the states), which also make stuff like corn syrup way cheaper to use than sugar cane for sweetening things.

On a side note, it would be neat to have a diesel LC and be able to go around to all the fast food joints and collect their used cooking oil to use as fuel after filtering it and other stuff.

I need to order a coil pack(s) to keep in the truck and still trying to find the part # for a coil pack here on mud.

But per the Denso website its part # 673-1303. List Price is 79.00.

Will update this post once I find the #.

Found it. Props to Beno for posting this back in 2012.

Well, there are 2 different coil packs for the 2UZ--an earlier and a later one.

1/1998-8/2003: 90080-19027: List: $101.59

8/2003-EOP: 90919-02259: List: $90.02

These can be had for cheaper through different sources.

Regards.

Five or Six years ago in the US, wasn't almost all gas Non-Ethanol? Our LC's should run just fine on this gas.

What was the issue?

Coil pack # 7. Had a crack in it. First coil pack I ever replaced. Purchased with 100k miles. I am currently at about 205k miles. I estimated miles driven because it has had 33s ever since I owned it.

Not a bad run before having a coil pack fall.
