Coil packs

I'm on my third one, too, which I don't consider too bad for a 2000 model with 130K miles. I bought a Chinese mfg from O'Reilly with lifetime warranty for ~$80. I also bought a spare for my kit.

Slight hijack: I replaced the no. 1 pack a few weeks ago. It was a Sunday, so I was limited to AutoZone part. If I were to put a Toyota pack in, would the A.Z. part still be usable, probably just as a trail spare?

Not sure on that one?

As for the packs, I guess at 200K thats not so bad.

I was looking to see if there were some better than factory units since I am running the trd charger on the engine.

What is the expected lifespan of the coil packs anyhow? My parents' '99 is almost to 180k and has never had one replaced.

180k is pretty damn good. I went through 2 of them on my 100. The last one died on my way to meet up with the new PO, but was easily fixed with a new pack from NAPA.

On my 3rd coil at 200K, I would like to either replace them all with a high quality aftermarket or just change them out with OEM?

All cars I have owned with coil packs seem to lose coil packs anywhere between 20-200k+. Seems to be no rhyme of reason. But heat can shorten their lifespan.

First of mine failed around 180K. Four more have gone since then but I'm now over 235K. I keep a Denso on the shelf now :-)

How much $ are OEM? It appears the oem are Denso? If so, Denso 673-1303 are $65 on amazon. I doubt they are 'better' than oem but seems like they would at least be equivalent. Also not sure how $65 compares to Toyota price.

MSRP $101 per coil...through one of the 'Mud dealers probably around $80.

Well, there are 2 different coil packs for the 2UZ--an earlier and a later one.

1/1998-8/2003: 90080-19027: List: $101.59

8/2003-EOP: 90919-02259: List: $90.02

These can be had for cheaper through different sources.

Regards.

Thanks Onur....I should have mentioned I pulled that from the ToD site using my model year as a reference.

If you did not have a scanner available I guess you could unplug one at a time until you found one that unplugging it didn't change the poor idle to and even worse idle. Scan Tool is the correct way to check though.

^ This, or this https://forum.ih8mud.com/100-series-cruisers/272655-coil-pack-replacement-without-knowing.html or, for $40 and probably less time and frustration than burning your hands trying to unplug 7 coil packs on a hot engine, go to HF and buy a code reader.
