Sweet. I look forward to doing this with my kids as well, but it'll be another 13 years. Of course, we ill buy the projects sooner than that and they can learn how to wrench, drive (on private land) and such, before they get licenses.
Good to see that you stayed with the correct color for a landcruiser! Here's to many years of wheeling fun for y'all.
I am planning on adding bumpers, sliders, and a small lift to give me a bit of room in the wheel wells. I am thinking of it as more of an expedition rig for camping and exploring the greatness of Idaho with the idea that one day my son uses it to get to college and also have fun with his old man.
Meathooker - You are correct. I found out more on the rig when I took into Peterson's to have them do a once over and found out who was the previous owner. I was able to talk them down WELL below their asking price. Oh, and I would love to get together sometime. Are you on here? http://www.nwcruisers.com/
A few other things I am thinking I will be doing after it warms up: Leatherique (for a week!), touch up paint - on order. Nothing big needs done, but I want to be sure we do not develop any rust. Currently, it only has a couple of pinpoints on the roof and I will take care of those next week when the paint arrives. I also need to mount or remove the wiring for the tow hitch. For some reason, they added it and left it dangling by the spare. Oh, and speaking of tires... I will get a year or two, at the most out of what is on there and then replace all 5. It looks like the spare is the original. May do that soon versus later, if funds become available. I have found that a great set of tires can be one of the best mods!

i'm not on nwcruisers ... i'll have to check it out though.
when you get ready for sliders and bumpers hit me up. i work for a fabrication shop in meridian and have access to a high-def cnc plasma and cnc press brake so i'll be making those items for mine this spring or summer. i like the lines of the 4x4labs rear and that probably be the inspiration. we might be able to work out a deal where i can build a couple when i'm cutting mine out and save you some money.
my 80 is on 315's now with no lift so my off-roading ability will be limited until i get my lift... and that will most likely be after snowmobile season (gets expensive!)
glad yo hear you got them down on the price as well... and again your rig looks uber clean...mine is an oxidized with torn seats
Took the 80 out this morning for a donut run, after a decent little snow last night. WOW, these Terra Grapplers are NOT a snow tire! I was finding my backside sliding around every turn! I may see if I can get them siped to increase my traction.
Oh, I plan on popping on some tires in a few years, but not right away, as these have lots of tread. They just stink in the snow. I expected better. My Cooper STs on the hundy are WAY better in snow!!
So, this last weekend my son and I took Oliver out to the Owyhee Mountains one of our local LC guys and stretched ourselves with regards to wheeling. I thought you guys would appreciate some pics:
Oh, and if anyone is wondering if an 80 has enough power to pull a 40 back onto its wheels... uphill, the answer is YES!
wow, glad that 40 is alright.. nice white 80 just saw this thread pop up again. I'd love to keep my 80 and I did currently start saving though not sure if i want t buy a 100 because in a few years who knows what gas will be and what the economy would be like but we'll see what happens.
One thing for sure... the hundy get better gas mileage, but the eighty is very fun, especially with those lockers! I used the quite a few times getting around on Saturday!

That is EXACTLY how I feel about the TerraCrapplers that came on my 80. People rave about them all the time and I found them totally unpredictable in snow. They WILL be for sale soon!
JT - Time to get yourself up here! We have a lot of exploring to do!
JW - After finding that my spare looked to be the original from 95, I moved my Cooper STs over to the 80 and they are very nice! They do rumble a bit and hum going down the road, but they stick like glue. I have those siped and after having them on the hundy for 1.5 years, I have seen very little wear. After the Michelins wear out on the new 18" rims, I will be replacing them with something very similar if not the same tire in maybe a 35". Not sure yet, but I definitely agree that the TGs were not good for me and my use.
