hmmm, I have a belt sander but i don't have a table sander, Only one of them is not very good - the first one that took me nearly 30 minutes to widdle down to the right fit, after I got that one fit, I drew on the other 3 and just dremmelled out the right amount, the 4th one took about 4 minutes and fit perfectly

Kyoso:

Or anyone else. Have you noticed any speedo error? With my Tundra 18s and Michelins Im about 5% increased - which doesnt bother me as my '99 could use the reduction.

I used a Dremel on mine - I went slow and it turned out well. Just follow Kyoso's contours - nothing is visible where its removed.

Thx again Kyoso - your post made it an hour job.

Right on. Let's see some pictures guys.

BTW, I think I might be off by about 3-4mph @ 65. Nothing new to me, I have had either oversized tires or wheels on every single on of my vehicles for the last 12-14 years and this setup probably has the least difference in overall diameter.

OK photos - 18" Tundra Alloys. Basically bought them since the takeoffs (wheel/tires) were cheaper than 4 new LTXs on the 16" stock rims. Looks good tho, updates the truck and they ride better. They bolt up easy as stock - except the front center caps. Just follow Kyoso's write up.

You can see how the stock center caps protrude. Used the rear Tundra caps. Otherwise happy - hope this answers some questions about the Tundra 18's

They look good, but it would drive me nuts with different caps on the front vs. back. I don't mind the protruded look as the stock LC wheels had a protruding cap anyway. Definitely a clean upgrade though, they look like they came on it from the factory as an option. Are you reselling your stockers? That'll make that set of tires really cheap:cool:

Wife’s ride needs new tires, she has a 01 100 Series. Thought I would look for some cheep used tires. I found a set of 07-08 18” Tundra takes wheels and tires with less then 8k on them. I will be picking them up on Saturday. Thank you for posting these pictures of them on yours. Made for an easy sell to the wife. I think Tundra 18’s look a ton better then stock and I already love the stock 16”s. I will post some before and after shots. Looks like I will be busy with the dremel on Saturday.

Can you run the LC center cap in the back too so they would match?

Alacrity, I have a couple of questions that I hope you can answer.

1. What load range are the stock Tundra Michelin LTX’s? The set I am getting are the 275-65-18, Mitchell LTX’s. There are several different kinds of the LTX’s do you have the Pilot, A/S, A/T 2 E, A/T 2 500 AB. The rims I am buying are exactly the same color and style as yours.
2. Also did your stock LC lug nuts work with these new Tundra Wheels?

I biggest concern is getting a E range tire and begin unhappy with the ride quality. Not sure if you have all these answers, if not maybe someone else can chim in.

Thanks Tare.

Just went by the Toyota dealer to see what tires they are putting on the Tundra’s. There are quite a few different brands, Dunlop, Michelin and BFGs. I believe the one that I am getting are the Michelin LTX A/S, they did not say on the tires but it looks like a range D from the max air pressure and weight limits. I did not want a load range E tire for the wifes ride. I had heard they were a rough ride. This information might but be use full to anyone else who contemplating this set up.

Also can anyone comment on the lug nuts? Can I use the old one off the Landcruiser with these new Tundra wheels?

Yeah, they're the same. They're an acorn style nut that Toyota uses with all of their alloy wheels. Be sure to post pics when you're done. My take-offs came with Bridgestone Dueler H/T Alenzas and they ride great on the pavement.

Update, new wheels and tires are on. Wow what a difference, looks way better IMOP with the bigger wheels. I can't ever see myself going back to the 16s. They just look way too small in the 100 series wheel wells. I much more prefer the Tundra style wheels to the stock LC ones. Very happy with the price (350) and out come of this. Also do not know what the deal is but the stock 100 series hub caps fit on the Tundra wheels with no problems. I did not need to alter them in anyway. Just put them on, they did take a little persuasion. It’s still possible I could loose one off-road but this is the wife’s car. She just uses it as daily driver. I will let you guys know if I loose one. I took some measurements, stock then with the new wheels.

STOCK
Wheels: 16-inch wheels
Tires: Michelin LTX M/S, 275/70R16, max load 2601 @ 55 PSI
Tires measured 29 ½ inches with the weight of the car on them
Front: ground to fender = 33 5/8
Rear: ground to fender = 34 1/8
LC stock 35%.webp

Tundra
Wheels: 18-inch wheels
Tires: Michelin LTX A/S, 275/65R18, max load 2601 @ 44 PSI
Tires measured 31 ½ inches with the weight of the car on them
Front: ground to fender = 35 1/8
Rear: ground to fender = 35 3/8

So you got the wheels with good tires for $350? Nice deal and they really look nice, makes the truck look newer. That's interesting that the caps fit, mine wouldn't even come close.

Been OOC for a while - glad others answered

Keeping the 16" ATM - use the truck as a DD and to transport a growing MTB contingent. So far the A/S has done fine in the light off-roading some of the trailheads local require - but theres a few places we hit that I'm thinking the 16's/A/Ts would be a good idea. Keeping an eye out for a cheap set - actually have a set of LT255/85-16s for one of my Land Rovers - might throw those on the 16s.

The LTX A/S comes in an E load - but you're right the 18's are D.

Kyoso - my caps wouldn't "latch" either w/o some removal. I was in a hurry so just put the rear Tundra Centers on. Thought about hole sawing - saw the other thread and I might do that - like the flat look.

Thx again Kyoso - Now if I can only find a set of 4Runner 18" Limited or 17" Sport rims for the GX. Wheels are peeling:rolleyes:

I realize this is an old thread, but I thought I would put my (recent) experiences here for others to read. Been trolling for a while and this is some great source of information.

I can NOT get the stock Tundra front caps to fit on my '03 100 series. I drilled out the center part of the Tundra caps something like 2 inches (I think 57mm, we use the Metric system over here).

Basically, the whole center recessed part is gone. They still wont fit. I think the 5 bolts on the grease cap somehow interfere with the wire ring that holds the cap on.

I will just be getting a set of 2 caps for the front hubs. I hope this won't drive me crazy, but I fear it will.

It's a shame, because the stock caps/rims are a very nice-looking combo. That's why I will not be getting 4 (old) caps: this way I will be at least 50% happy with the look.

BTW/FYI: I can't use the original caps, because they have been painted together with my stock 18" wheels, I got them powdercoated a sort of matte Gunmetal Grey. Like the new BMW M-series wheels. Very nice look.

The Tundra's are my winterset. And those are the original "silver" color.

The original front AND back caps have been painted to match the powdercoated stock 18" wheels. That will be my summer setup.

It is quite common around here to have two full sets of wheels that you switch out every 6 months. One complete setup for winter, one complete setup for summer. Switching them out takes my shop maybe all of 15 minutes. And they store the wheels, too.

It is in fact even illegal to drive on non-winter tires in Germany during the winter months. Not "M+S", you must have REAL winter tires with a winter tire rating (mountain with snowflake symbol I think)
And I drive through Germany quite often.

oh, I didnt know you were swapping back and forth. The tundra hubcaps dont really want to fit on my truck either, so I decided to forget about them.

I got 8 wheels for 350!
