Ok, I got what I thought was the last but before getting everything installed, but I missed throttle linkage differences...real different! Installing stock 78 2F into a 66 FJ40. The old linkage was modified with a weber stye system. I have a throttle cable coming out of the firewall just below and manifold side of the brake M/C. right about manifold hieght. I have a few misc. brackets and such. here's a pic. anything here that's actually from a stock set up? ai know the top left linkage is from my old F engine. Can anyone post or send me a pic of a proper set up? That would be the best start. Does the pulling force on this 78 carb need to be straight toward the pass side? Looks like it with a cable attached to that little ball it would bind on the bracket. Do I need to find linkage parts or has anyone made something like this work well? thanks!

Well 'B' is the piece that attaches to the drivers side of the carb, big metal tab 'up', that should have a bushing in it for the lateral link that connects to the firewall on a bracket, and then the vertical link from the gas peddal attaches to the lateral link.

confused?

Sorry I do not have a picture.

Good luck!

I think I follow that along using Specter catalog as a guide. I just don't see what actually connects to the carb. Could I make a cable work or should I start shopping for yet MORE parts...whew!

You should not have a problem finding this stuff...

Finding parts seems to be the easiest thing. Putting them together correctly is a whole 'nuther story! I'm having trouble understanding how bracket "B" in my photo attaches to the carb. From La Duke's pics in the link it almost looks like it goes under the vac diaphragm? Anyone want to post more pics? Pretty please? I need to understand the movement of this linkage. It seems to need a pull from left to right(looking forward from the driver seat). Does the linkage twist and pull the arm hooked onto the ball dealy on the carb?

Part 'b' has a pair of holes in it, that match the base of the carb perfectly. This sits on top of the carb and the nuts that tighten down the carb, also hold this bracket on.

You can see that in the pictures...

Yes there is a rod that attaches to the carb and the pivot rod, that twists, and attaches to a bracket on the firewall. The piece that attaches to the pivot rod going to the carb does move linear from left to right and vise-versa, depending on the position of the peddal.

There is a return spring that attaches to that little extension from the carb pivot bracket, (part 'b') to the same location on the carb that the linear linkage piece from the pivot rod attaches.(or real close to it)

Hope you are not completly confused...

The first pic is from the firewall looking toward the carb.
second pic slightly angled so you can see the linkage connection on the "B" piece.
Third is the "B" bracket from the drivers side fender. The nut in the pic is the left rear carb nut.
Hope these help a little. Let me know if you need more.

Thanks Steve, that helps a lot! I guess words do work good long as there's a picture to look at. Now for parts...I guess I'll need everything from the pedal, which is already a newer one for the cable set up, to the carb? Will it be obvious where to bring it through the firewall? I'm supposing I'll need a new hole in line with carb heigth?
thanks again

Glad to help.

Here's a shot of the firewall connection. More linkage. Yikes!
The stock configuration is not a direct hole in line with the carb.

Thanks so much robert!!! The firewall hole looks close to what I have already. That might be the most dificult part to determine so things don't bind. Got some leads on linkages. Looks like I won't be cruisi'n for another couple weeks...
