Has anyone had first hand experience with the new Toyo open country m/t tires? I have heard nothing but praise about these tires, and I just ordered a set of 285/75/R16`s for my 2000 100 series...I am just wondering what to expect with these so called "ultimate m/t `s" ... Thanks so much for your time ! :bounce:

The sidewalls are thinner than the Goodyear MTR...

Thinner, yes, but perhaps as strong ? I have read that the compound and plys are extremely abrasion and puncture resistant ( these tires supposedly ran the baja 1000 on one set without a single leak or damage)

All I know is that the ones I saw at the Indy SEMA show looked great, but were constructed of a rubber compound softer than my MTRs

I wouldn't expect great life out of them, in other words.

I'd love to be wrong, though.

Hmm... the selling point was that they were the ONLY M/T with a 60,000 mile tread life warranty ....
oh, its a third party warranty....

WOW. Guess I'm wrong, then. Must be a different-than-standard rubber chemistry.

None of the literature I grabbed from the Toyo booth mentions anything about that warranty.

All these selling features add up to the big dollars they are asking for them.

I'm looking forward to some real world reports on the sidewalls, traction and wear.

It sux to be guessing when they are the most expensive tire in their class.

Yeah, maybe I jumped the gun by oredering them before looking a little deeper into the product, but as soon as I saw them I was in love !... BTW...My buddy just put a set on his 02 tacoma (33X13.5) and they performed exceptional in mixed sand, snow, mud and general muck...I just cant seem to find any "long term" useage reports or how they are holding up under hard use...Trust me, I will let you all know if they are "hype" or the real deal !!
Thanks for your responses !! :D

Well I have heard they are the best all around off road tire from Randy at Advanced Off Road (AOR). Several people are running the large sizes on their rock crawlers. Since the smallest size available until now is 35", you won't find a ton of people who have run them here.

But I'd say its about 1,000,000 miles away from being declared the "ultimate" anything. There are very few actual miles on these tires to date.

This is actually the first I've heard about the 285's being available. The smaller sizes have been delayed for some time. Where did you get them?

I have not received them yet, but I have placed an order with a local dealer ( who seems to have a good relationship with Toyo), I should get one of the first (batch) sets that become available... Toyo gave an E.T.A. of the first or second week of March..I can`t wait !!
:D

So? Did you get'em on? Can you please post some pictures !?

Sin,

Its great that you "jumped the gun"......as long as you give some good feedback.

I'm just kidding. These major companies are smarter than we are. If they have any thought of being reputable, they won't tag a POS tire with a high tag just to sell it. Afterall their name is on it.

I think you made a good choice and can be happy knowing you went out on a limb and will be surprised at the result.

Doug

Btw: post some pics when they're mounted, huh?

No, Not yet Auggies`blu....I called Toyo directly about 10 days ago, and the Toyo Rep told me that the 285`s should hit the warehouse in 30 days or less...As I mentioned, I have them Pre-ordered with a local (Toyo) dealer, and according to him, I will have one of the first sets released, before they make it into the regional warehouses ...It is driving me nuts, because I had a set of (5) stock 16" rims powder coated black, all ready for these M/T`s ...and they are VERY lonely !! ..Not to mention the fact that I have to hear my buddy who already got his 33X13.5x15"`s last month brag about how awesome and quiet they are on/off road !! They look so friggin` aggressive on his truck w/black Rock Crawler Street-Lock rims, It (rims+tires) changed the entire look of his Tacoma, and he already had some bad ass Pro-Comp M/T`s and Weld wheels on it before the swap !!

I wish there was a nice 15" rim (that actually fit) for the 100 available, because I would already have a set !!!!! ...I am sure that they will be worth the wait, though !!

I will post pics as soon as I get them on the L/C !!

But, untill then, I will continue to destroy my 18`s off-roading, so there is NO looking back !

P.S...Thanks for the words of faith Doug !!! I hope you are right !!

Oops my bad - Open Country A/T's, not M/T's. OK, does anybody have any experience with the A/T's?

Open Country A/T's, does anybody have any experience with the A/T's?

Hey ATL...This months (April 2005) issue of FOUR WHEELER magazine has a write up on several A/T-M/T tires including the OPEN COUNTRY A/T....
Maybe it will help....

Hey, you get your tires yet? I am holding off but I can't wait much longer;)

No, I am still waiting for mine..It looks like another couple of friggin weeks..
I know they will be worth the wait, but GEEZE !!
Although I am quite pleased ( and amazed ) that these stock 18`s are still holding up (after what I`ve put them through!) , I cant wait to have some rubber that I feel confident when going out to some, lets say, more challenging terrain !

I should`a known it would be hard to get these tires, from what I hear they (Toyo M/T`s ) are the hottest tire on the market right now !!

SALEH,

Have you got some rubing issues on your 315s ? You do have 2inch lift kit, right ?

Thanks.
