Any thoughts on the inexpensive Birfields sold for FZJs on eBay? eBay Item number 7952650289 as of right now.

If a factory birfield lists for $618, it seems it'd be worth $100 (or whatever the final price is) for one of these.

Has anyone used one of these cheaper joints? Are they Chinese?

Thanks,

Steve

they seem to be selling for around $70.

I wonder if they are made in China. There is also another vendor in eBay selling rotors for FZJ80 for about $50 a pair, I contacted the vendor and asked him and he told me the rotors are made in China. I am just not confortable with the Chinese made junk you find nowadays. A few weeks ago when working on my birfields I was using a Harbor Fregith Tools ball pen hammer to tap the cone washers out and the darn thing "launched" the head off and hit me right on the forehead.
Say NO to Chinese made Junk!

I've seen the auctions, there's been a LOT of them over the past weeks. Says 15% upgrade from OEM?

They can’t be the ones CV Unlimited is making? That’s like $200 under what they like to sell them for each. Probably just PM the seller and ask for the Country of origin. $70 is cheep. I would question how they came up with the 15% stronger thing. Only shop I know with purpose built destructive birf testing equipment is Bobby Long. Almost be worth buying one and having Bobby blow it up just to get real data on it.

Ya we roll the dice with tools from HF. I had one of their slide hammers disintegrate on me when I was pulling a stubborn one piece transfer case. The weight came off and my wrist hit the edge of the table snapping it backward, no fun. Antonio you are typing so I take it the hammer did not do any permanent dmg!

not for long term use, but wouldn't one of these be handy for getting a fella off the trail? I don't give a lick about 15% stronger...same strength as OEM would be fine with me.

That said, I really don't want to pick up garbage...

so...I'm kinda torn.

Don't know where it is made on this specify one, but I do know his 4340 chrome birfs is made in USA.

So this seller also sells 4340 birfs on e-bay? That would be CV Unlimited then if they are US made. (Only game in town) I wonder if they are just wholesaling some inventory under an assumed e-bay name, protecting their $275 stocker replacement and $350 4340 Cromo replacement birfs Rtl prices. The auction sold birfs would then protect them from their normal “lifetime warrantee” they offer if sold as CV Unlimited. This of course would let them sell them cheaper. Hmm...

IF they are, cool deal for the consumer! Bad deal for anyone reselling CV unlimited joints.

Agreed for the $ it would make a great spare to get you off the trail. Besides for $70 a birf one could easily spend a few extra bucks and have it locally cyro treated. The cyro should bump it up a bit in longevity. Beats having $300 tied up in one spare part.

Of course when the time comes on the trail and you need that part, no price seams all too high at the time! Its even a better feeling when you brake a part knowing you got fresh spare in the back. The rarer or more unusual part to have as a spare the better the feeling when you need it, I KNOW!

Yes, he has sold some 4340 birfs with lifetime warranty (for broken birf, not worn birf).

Ok you got me wondering....

Hemingway S.C. = Home of CV Unlimited
Columbia S.C. = Home of e-bay seller.

Columbia SC is about 100miles away and is the nearest large city to Hemingway hmmm kind of close to be some random Asia birf importer that occasionally sells CV Unlimited 4340 birfs w/ the warrantee for $122.50 ($227.50 under their retail price) Also this sellers name is 6512CV, CV even. Look at the dudes history too!

e-bay# 7949732862 even calls it by the Newfield name.

I say they are all from the same place. Of course I would not complain too loud as a consumer since it is a cheep back door to getting the goods.

No kidding! Mainly pointing out to SteveH that I bet $ to donuts the $70 birf is the name brand unit just being sold cheaply. Kind of like buying a Koyo brand bearing instead of the same one in the Toyota brand box.

Ok back to Shhhhh mode!

So did you ask how they've obtain the 15% over OEM strength?

I asked about the 15% and got no answer. I have one on the way for 79-85 mini so I can see when it gets here whats up. I asked how they could sell the NEW type for so cheap and all I got back was if I was not happy with it I could get my money back. I asked about the "new" and he stated that these are definitely NEW and from Toyota, not cheapos. For $20 I figure I couldn't pass it up. Is there anyway to check it for where it came from and exactly what it is just by looking at it?

I did not know about this so I started one on POR birf guy

I received an email and it is from gstuckeycvunlimited so the birfs are from them. Who knows if they are cheapos or are quality from them but they are from cvunlimited.
