ROTW: umpqua's Grey cruiser

Posted for Umpqua

I have an '88 fj62 landcruiser that I simply call the
Grey Landcruiser. Not very creative but since I have
two Landcruisers it keeps them separate.

I bought the 62 about 10 years ago from a Toyota
dealer in Hot Springs, AR. It had 120K miles on the
odometer but had one previous owner and I guess that I
got lucky because I have had very few problems over
the 10 years that I have owned it. I have put in a new
radiator, alternator, etc. Nothing major at all so far
and it now has 220K miles. There is NO rust and it
spends most of it's time in the garage waiting for the
next adventure which mainly consists of hauling
canoes, rafts, camping gear and dogs.

I've driven the Landcruiser to Mexico twice and I hope
to someday drive it to the Artic Circle and Central
America. I will keep you posted on that.

Modifications that I would like to do;

ARB or Hannibal Roof Rack
33" skinny tires
Drawer System/Sleeping surface in the back
GPS
Alarm System/Kill Switch
Tinted Windows
Re-pad/Re-Upholster Seats
Long Range Gas Tank
Diesel
Upgrade Transmission

Modifications that I have completed;

2" OME Heavy front/Med Back Lift
Dual Battery System
PIAA lighting Upgrade with ARB Wiring Harness
Warn M8000 Winch
Custom Front Bumper
62 to 60 Front End Conversion

I want to thank the following;

2MBB Bumper Design
DirtGyspy Bumper Fabrication (THANKS!!)
Lifelonglove
-62 to 60 front conversion
-Lighting Upgrade
-Winch Mount and Bumper Modification

Larry Harper Battery Installation

I have ALL of my mechanical work done at Willamette
Blvd Auto in Portland. Josh (lifelonglove) and Larry
Harper are a father and son duo and they do GREAT work
and are Landcruiser addicts. They can be reached by
calling 503.286.0907. If you are in the Portland, OR
area I highly recommend that you give them a call.

I have it in my mind that now that I have installed
the bumper and winch that my front is too low in
respect to the rear. I'd appreciate your comments on
that.

And now the pictures.

That's a really well balanced cruiser. I mean a nice blend of DD and weekend warrior and it's super clean. Nice cruiser ;)

In regard to the bumper situation. I would have to agree about it looking a little funny. I think an ARB or a slee short-bus would balance it out.

Just my opinion...

Nice rig! Do you have any close ups of the bumper. I like the round headlights that is a MUST do for all 62's (I am a H8ER of the 4 eyes look).

BTW, it is not mine, I am just posting it up for umpqua

:D

I think it looks great! I am a bit biased on the front bumper because I built it but it fits the truck very well. I don't think the nose drop is bad at all.

Where were the snow pics taken?

Bagby Hot Springs area, Mt. Hood National Forest yesterday.

The nose doesn't appear that bad to me either....

Very nice truck. Clean. Beautiful. Looks great!

Nice Rig... Fellow Grey 62 owner myself.

I don't dislike the square headlights, but the black grill and round lights on yours makes me want to convert.

hit me up next time you hit the mountains for some snow fun. we would love to join you!

forgot to add that Larry Harper is a fantastic mechanic, well worth the drive to NoPo for the work

looks great, like those round headlights too...

I dig the round eye mod for the 62! I MAY do this one day!
Very nice rig!
Me personally...I think it looks a bit low in the front, but thats just me.

Thanks for sharing!
