I need to buy a transfer case rebuild "kit" from cruiser outfitters... Kurt says that there are two different idler shafts that may be used in this year model. Either a 34 mm or 38 MM. Where do you measure this? Can it be measured while still in the truck? Anyone have a pic that shows this idler shaft. My skid plates are still on and I've not removed any of the parts yet.

My FJ60 is still running and we plan to pull the stock engine in two weeks. Can anyone post up a pic on this thread to show me where this idler shaft is ( yeah I know stupid me) but I had to ask.

While that is generally the case... I would be a big ~ in front of 4/86' :D. I have seen 34's in late trucks and 38's in earlier trucks. Elberts is a 7/86' thus why spending a couple minutes and ordering is a good idea IMO. I've had a couple of post 4/86' truck owners calling me Friday night asking what it will take to get their 38mm kit swapped for a 34mm kit ;) Did I mention they usually call AFTER they pull the t-case apart :D

Elbert, this is the part you need to measure :)

Hey--That's my picture!!!

IMHO the 38mm cases are the bomb, but I've never heard of a 34mm case having any problems.

Yes it is... :D I added a note to that thread too ;)

There is one thing the late cases have over the earlier ones, and thats bearings on the hi-low gears versus bushings. I've been happy with my 34mm... I'll be even happier when I get around to installing the Marks gearset :D

Thanks Kurt, I did see that on the TC, but did not know what I was looking at... I'll give you a call tomorrow to let you know what I have.

FYI the shaft on my TC is 38MM
