What do you guys suggest to keep your FJ40 from going bye bye.
I bought the club, but it just seems kind of cheesy. Would a motion alarm be the way to go ? I have just a soft top so if a crook wanted to get in they could. I was even thinking about a hidden kill switch placed somewhere. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. -Matt

I have been hiding my tools and spare parts under the rear bench ;p

I use the club religiously; every time I get out, I pretend I am locking the driver side door (like that would work :rolleyes:). Even after leaving some $500 or more in merchandise in the truck, I have never had anything stolen in 2 year

I guess it depends on your neighborhood [I don't usually park my truck outside for extended times] and how cool these people find the truck [I get a whole lot of lookers]

Previous owner had an alarm system installed, and the stickers are still there ;), but it was hack wiring :rolleyes: and didn't work when I got the truck
 
The club is a joke compared to this.

I also have an alarm system that disables the ignition and a keyed brake lock system that locks all 4 wheels. There are other security systems I would just as soon not discuss.

actually, I think manual transmission is already a good deterrent :D

even the guys at the emissions testing station had trouble with it :flipoff2:
 
in my opinion it is a multitude of things that work, not just one. Alarm systems I think are crap and thieves get around them easily. I prefer mechanical deterents. Grant has a nice system where you can remove the steering wheel. I also use a boot, the same type the city uses when you dont' pay your parking tickets. Found it on the net somewhere works well and fits a 35 mud tire. Kill switches work well too.

I'd go with redundancy. They may figure one, but not likely two and it would take too long for the average joy rider to futz with.
If they really want it they'll get it. i.e. flat deck truck. However it's good to fend off the lazy thief.
Fuel cut-off along the frame...
Keyed ignition cut-off thru the fire wall with a craftsman tool chest lock fabed into the hood side apron.

Just paid $368 a year for $25,000 guaranteed replacement value on a 1979 FJ40 that was completely restored.

Why buy the stuff that might work. Thieves are really good these days.

if you want your Cruiser back..............get LoJack

battery disconnect
possibly line locks (mech. because electric will eventually drain battery)


not a theft det. but might help in finding the jerkass's who stole it: i also heard of sliding your business cards into certian parts of your vehicles via doors and dash and things where if it were to be chopped it could be traced back to you
 
I just installed a Viper 791xv alarm system. Pretty easy, I installed a hood pin switch, motion sensor, door pin switches on both doors, power locks, ignition kill if car alarm goes off, and a backup batter for the alarm so it will even work when the battery is cut.

I had this on my 70 and it worked really well. I had the switch in the toolbox under the drivers seat on my 70 which the tool-box could be locked also. Then I added the grant steering wheel removal kit which was easy and used a key also. Put the steering wheel in the back pack and off I went.

3-on-the-tree. Probably 99.9% of punk car theives wouldn't know what to do with it!
