I put my t-case in 4wd today to test it out (i'm in dallas and the weather is suppse to get nasty) incase i need it today and the light didn't come on. Now i rebuilt my t-case a couple of months ago and hopefully that has nothing to do with it. I checked all 4 plugs that are above the t-case and they are all plugged in. What gives? Where should i be looking?

thanks,

jason

under the hood on the firewall pasenger side theres two little vacum dohickys bolted together with two hoses one going to each. try reversing them . then see if you have 4wd if not try blowing threw the hoses or sucking threw the two hoses , i have to do this once in a while on my 62

Is the light just not coming on or is it not going into 4wd? If 4wd isnt working, you probably need to replace one or both of the vaccuum solenoids on the firewall to get it working properly. If its just the light, no biggie, its probably the bulb or a bad ground or something.

OK, i switched the two vacuum lines and put the truck in 4wd and the light came on. But for some stupid reason i couldn't switch back to 2wd. It was like it was stuck. So i reversed the lines back and the truck went back into 2wd fine. So i am guessing the vaccuum solenoids aren't working properly and i need to replace those. Now i may need 4wd today on my way home (i am in dallas) so if i switch the hoses again and put in 4wd will it be fine until i get home to switch back?

You guessed it, mine haven't worked properly for years.
I have to switch the hoses to get out of 4WD. Work's though.:grinpimp:

you figured it out. try blowing or sucking threw them two hoses. mine was sticking all the time till i blew threw them hoses now it work properly most the time

Your 4wd engage solenoid has failed. Usually it is the disengage.

OEM replacement is something like $40 from what scuttlebutt says. A $17 Toyota replacement was found, but they are discontinued.

There is a very easy swap of an FJ60 ABV solenoid. If you can scrounge one from someone's desmog it will probably be free. If you have to buy it Toyota will sell it to you for about $110-$120. They have a few left in the system.

Mark...

There are a lot of options, its a very simple setup so you can make a lot of different valves work, from industrial to manual setups (search for spook50, he did that on his 62). The thread that was linked to has about everything worth knowing on the subject.

And to add a little to what midas said, i had a little crap in my hardlines that kept mine from engaging quickly after i did the MAC valves swap, although i wouldnt reccomend sucking it out with your mouth!!!

hey orange when you in a mud hole and your front dif wont enguage you do what you have to!!!!!!

There is a valve on 95-99 Subaru Lagacy wagons I will bet 20 bucks will work, and I beleive the electrical connector is the same. It is the EGR valve solenoid.

I will bet a dollar it will work, and plug right in. I don't know about cost, but I would imagine less than 120-400 bucks from Toyota
