Well, I did the valve adjusting. The knock in the engine isn't better. I thought it was valves, but it sounds lower. I have 60 on oil pressure, 190 on temp. That looks good, but I cant get rid of the knock. Any suggestions? Ideas?

Thanks in advance.

Another thing that is and has happened is that it purrs till i get up to 10mph then it knocks like crazy. Adjusting the valves did not resolve.

Did you build this engine?

What is the history of the engine?

Check out the Engine Knocks links in the FAQ

No I didn't build it. I purchased it from another member here on Mud. $525 total spent. Engine, plus hotel room.

I read all the engine knock links. Good info. Was hoping to get a good engine to avoid this.

Drop the oil and the pan and look at the rod bearings....

That is about all you can do if it is a lower end, deep engine knock...

So this is the engine that you did the swap on?

Are you 100% sure that the distributor is seated into the oil pump?

Do you have oil pressure?

You have posted multiple times about timing issues and apparently not being able to time the engine...

The lack of oil pressure will lead to a lower end engine knock, before it locks up solid or the oil pan or engine block fail to keep all the engine parts inside of it.... ;)

While the engine is running pull a plug wire off and see if the knock goes away. DO it to each cylinder individually. Its best to do this with te insulated pliers, doesn't feel good to get shocked.

I think I posted it above... but the oil pressure is at 60 on my guage inside, which is a good pressure.

The distributer is 100% seated, took a mirror to it and its down as far as it can go. The timing is on, according to a Manual I have. The rotor was pointing between the 3rd and 4th spark plug, more toward the 4th.

I thought the knock was the valves, but the knock is a solid one... not a rap but a heavy rap/knock.

When the engine is idle at 700-800 rpm's, it is smooth. When it gets up to 5-10 mph, its louder than crap.. unbearably loud. I've read the engine knock FAQ and one guy said his flywheel was loose. I will look here after I drop the oil pan. However, I purchased the engine with the bellhousing still attached and just bolted it up thinking no one had gone into it. I think its a long shot... so I will do it after the pan.

Because this is a Good Valve adjusting FAQ thread, I will move my talk over to my engine swap thread.

So you missed the fact that I have moved your posts about the engine knocking out the valve adjustment thread and into their own? ;)
