IIRC Brian said he printed his on presentation transparency type clear sheet. Used the old lens as a pattern to cut it out, then stuck it on the switch with the printing towards the switch, so it cant get scratched.:hillbilly:

Printing Question

How do you actually print the white graphic? AFAIK, home printers aren't set up with white ink, therefore it would require either a commercial printer or the use of a razor to cut the white graphic (with the black outline printed on white paper) and gingerly tape or glue it to the back or front of the switch window.

I may be missing something patently obvious here, if so, feel free to give me the 'mud salute and then explain it to me.

I have a Word document with about 5 different sizes of the Dgranth graphic that I copied, cleaned up a bit with MS Paint and pasted on a Word document for printing once I learn how to do so. If you want it, PM me and I'll PM it or email it to you.

I'm planning to fix up my three junk yard hazard switches with the graphic and offer the remaining two to forum members who need a cheap 95-97 CDL switch. IIRC from a previous thread, it will also work on 93-94 trucks  by placing it one of the lower rectangular blanks instead of the curved blank up by the real hazard switch.

I tested my three hazard switches yesterday while I had the dash apart for the temp gauge mod and some backlight lamp replacements. All of the buttons had the correct effect - illuminating the ABS and DIFF LOCK lamps - and the one that I left in my dash after dash reassembly did in fact cause the CDL to engage on command while I was driving.

I used the directions from sleeoffroad.com to install the CDL button. Just be sure that you use a thin, narrow screwdriver or other object to remove the pocket that sits above the radio. There are two dash attachment screws that can only be accessed after this pocket is removed. Although it is possible to pull the dash off without doing this first, it will cause some damage to those two attachment points.

The graphic was copied from Dgranth's post and cleaned up. I had Kinko's print a black surround on a overhead projector sheet, because they couldn't print the white graphic with a black surround. Then I painted the back of it with white out. It does allow light through the icon at night from the dimmable backlight.

The overall appearance is not as nice as a factory graphic because it is sitting behind a lense that has been buffed clean with 600 grit sandpaper. Dgranth's picture above shows what it looks like in the daylight. This might be overcome by placing the decal over the top of the switch and covering it with some high quality clear tape.

#1- Installed
#2- Installed with backlight at maximum intensity
#3- Uninstalled

Is your beef with the attempt to save a few bucks or that someone would care what the graphic looks like... or what?

I believe the OP is a college student so time vs money is different for him than it is for others. That's why he wanted to save some $$.

For many of us, keeping a "factory" look is important. That might be a little hard to understand but the goal is to build up the truck while making most things look professionally done. Many of us will spend a lot of time wire-looming the engine bay and spending a lot of time hiding mods to keep them invisible.

If you have another beef then speak up; I'd like to hear it.

Indeed the "OP" is a college student. He also happens to be my nephew. Russell is very much into "tinkering" with the vehicles he owns. If there is a less expensive way to do something, then he will probably take a look at it.

I can assure you its not a matter of money, (He is currently on vacation in Europe), he just prefers to do things himself and has a responsible attitude about what things should cost.

And yes, Wulf...you hit it right on the head. We all customize our vehicles in different ways for different reasons. No one should have a beef with that.

Thank you for defending one persons point of view.
