Already home!
I left the beach about 7:30 this morning to get back for some family duties. Holy shait, there was some high water on the beach. I was driving up into people's camp sites just to stay out of the water. The Ocean was over the berm at the lagoon as well. Very cool. At the entrance ramp about 5 stuck 2 wheel drive cars were right there-stuck due to high water and soft sand. A volvo was stuck in the water with waves breaking over his wheels. I thought about tugging him out, but two others were already trying, so I left them to it.
THe Sand Chef competion was a blast. I was fortunate to be a judge, and that had to be the best job in camp. "Here, try this incredibly delicious food, how about some more? How about some more wine. Hey, I made you guys Pina Coladas and extra dessert-is that OK?", you get the idea. It was tough duty but we were able to pick a winner. Kudos to Alvaro for orginizing this new facet to Surf and Turf. As Jim says, every year it gets better.
I got to meet Butch who was one of the other judges and I even learned to speak a bit of Texan. We even got him to try some of California's finest fermented grape juice-at first he was very skeptical and didn't want Kowboy to know, but by the end of dinner he had downed 2 glasses and was asking for more. Good times for sure.
Saw some amazing sights-like a rocket launch from the Airforce base this moring at 5:55am. Just after that I saw an even more amazing sight, but I'm not telling what it was. Clutchee was there and saw it too, so you can ask him, but it had to do with a "movie star" and frontal nudity.

He wants to move to California now.
Many thanks to Jim and Katherine for such a fine event. It is obviously a huge amount of work, and I don't think people appreciate what Jim puts into it.
Until next year.
