Hey mudders,
Reassembling the 1FZ in the garage after a head job and bearings. Have engine at TDC 0 degrees. Head timing marks on camshaft gears are also matching together with timing chain on and oil pump cover installed. Does it matter where the marks I put on the chain are at, or is it...
Thanks guys. How do you ensure timing chain and pistons match up? TDC on piston 1, cams not reinstalled yet, timing chain not reinstalled yet. Remember those marks to make the gears line up. Marks on the chain indicate TDC on gear and crank...
Still a little bit fuzzy on how that goes back...
Hi mudders, posted a note last night about the gears for the oil pump and on the crank--was wondering if someone could confirm that these gears are supposed to be free spinning:
YouTube - 1FZ Engine question...
The gear on the front of the driveshaft, and the gear that drives the oil pump seem to be free spinning as I look at reassembling the front cover. Is that correct? Crank is torqued down, connected.... I would have guessed that the gear would be fixed to the crank...
Okay, head serviced, crank ground ten thousandths. Don't have that Toyota service manual and the Haynes one says to check specs for main bearings with plastigage but doesn't give the tolerance. Anyone got that number?
Pics later tonight.
Ended up loading engine into the back of a pickup and driving over to the local service shop for them to spin off the crankshaft pulley bolt with their big air compressor and pneumatic air gun. The thing would not budge.
How do you remove the lifters in the head? I'm use to being able to...
It probably would have been easier to pull just the engine, but I had read up on mud that pulling the whole drive train was the recommended method.
Making progress on my project. Check out all the metal shavings in the pan and on the oil intake screen. How can I safely pull this bolt on the...
Well, it's 2 degrees in Minneapolis today--that combined with the worst head cold I've had in years is going to keep me from separating the engine from the tranny today--even with the garage heater I don't feel well enough to do it. Too bad because I have been so excited to get this build going...
Thanks for the tips guys.
Here is the end result.
By the way, 70's guyhad said to use an engine leveler when picking the engine and tranny, and now fully understand why. F*&%ed up my bumper and sheet metal up front.:bang: Lucky I've got another set laying around.:meh: Only other...
Hey mudders,
Need some help...
Ready to pull engine, tranny and transfer case, but it's lifting the whole truck. Driveshafts are stuck in place, but nuts and bolts removed, motor mounts loose, etc. Whole truck lifts up when trying to raise engine, tranny and transfer case with cherry...
