    4800 Ultra 4 Car

Well the Toyota content is basically none existent on this one, but I’d thought I’d share what I’ve been up to since Dusty the Mini Truck has been finished. I jumped in on this stalled Ultra 4 car back in May and have been reworking a bunch of stuff that wasn’t going to work which led to a...

Warn 8274 9.5 XP Motor upgrade

I thought I’d share my recent refurbishment of an 80’s vintage 8274. It was a 2 for 1 deal for a few hundred Canadian bucks. The better of the 2 had good internals and good brake frictions so it was chosen. I buffed the drum and painted it to prep for synthetic rope which I’ll get at the local...

How much slip is ok on a typical Toyota driveshaft?

im looking for opinions and experiences here. My front 3 link will require 2.125” of driveshaft slip from full bump to full droop. That leaves only 2.5” of splines engaged. Will that be ok or do I need a long slip?

    Too far gone???

what do you all think about restoring this beast? I’m thinking a tub swap is a must. It runs. I’m ok at body work, sheet metal fab. Are there any suppliers for tubs in Canada or the US that aren’t aluminum?

How is my gear tooth contact pattern?

This is my first attempt at R&P set up. This is a 9.5 full float rear from a 80 series getting 4.88 nitro gears and a yukon zip locker. Does does the pattern look ok? Any advice? Pinon bearing preload is 12 in lb, backlash is .008.

    Advice Needed: LS V8 & 4L60e & 4 sp Tcase swap into 40 series

I’m looking for some advice on engine placement from those who have done this swap before. After mocking the drive train in place I’m having trouble finding the best compromise that will lead to overcoming driveline angles and front drive shaft/trans pan clearance issues. These pics are how...

    What is a ’74 1.5F worth?

I’ve got a 1.5F in my '74 40 which is coming out for a LS 4.8L V8. The clock reads 14,000 km but I have no idea how many times around it has been. It is still in the cruiser and running but coming out soon. Last fall I had a shop compression test it when it was in for an inspection...

Dash Pad Resto on the Cheap

My dash pad was in poor condition when I purchased my '74 last year. I considered most of the options out there for replacing or covering it but all where quite pricey. While I was doing the fibreglass work to extend my top I decided it couldn’t hurt to try and fix up my dash pad. The first...

    Re keying door locks?

It it possible? My 74 40 has a worn out ignition tumbler, no door tumbler, an old but likely functional hatch tumbler and no keys. The ignition has been rewired to an aftermarket key. I hope to replace the ignition and door tumblers, I see SOR sells the tumblers I need but there is no talk of...

Can anyone ID this electrical part?

I'm about 70% sure this came off the passenger side harness under the hood of my 74 fj40. What is it? What does it do? Where does it go? It became detached as I was working on my tub while off the frame. I couldn't find it in the reference pics I took. Any advice would be appreciated.

    Home made garage paint both

I took some advice out of paint 101 thread stickied in this section and made my own paint booth in 1 half of my 2 car garage. I just screwed some 2x4's to the ceiling and floor so I had something to staple the heavy poly/vapour barrier to, since I drywalled my garage instead of just sheeting it...

Looking for some windshield frame resto advice

I'm in the middle of a restomod of my '74 FJ40 and I've come across more rust than expected on the defrost ducts inside the the windshield frame. The rust on the outside is repairable by cutting it out and welding it a patch but I'm not really sure where to start on the defrost ducts, there is...

    Builds  '74 FJ40 Build: My 1st Cruiser

Here is my 74 FJ40. I bought it in September, drove it until early November when I decided to put a mild OME lift on it and start repairing the body including the POs fibreglass over layer. Shortly after putting the front OME springs in I realized it was not going to be tall enough for 35s. I...
