I know this is a pretty lame question, but my 71 is so pristine (only had it a year now) that I get fearful taking things apart and have been taking the rig to the local LC mechanic (yes I'm very fortunate) for things that I would have attempted on my FJ60 which is in far rougher shape.
My cowl...
I have a 1971 FJ40 I just purchased recently and the interior door handles are very loose and jiggly and makes lots of little noises as I hit bumps etc.
Is that normal? I won't bother replacing them if thats the case. They seem to work just fine - again they just seem very jiggly.
Hey all, just picked up my first FJ40 today! I also own a 1984 60 series which I've had for a little over a year.
When I first test drove the 40 we were up on a mountain and I hadn't noticed some of the things that I now am aware of since I've had a decent highway drive etc while returning...
I bought my first Landcruiser, an 84 FJ60 in August 2015. It's been a love affair the whole way.
I love the Landcruiser so much I had to get another one. I haven't picked it up yet, but I have some photos so you can start enjoying it too!
NOT MINE but I just had a lengthy phone conversation with the owner. He seemed like a real good guy and was very open about any history/deficiencies the rig has and I want to see it find a good home since I am trying to find something a little cleaner.
FJ40 LandCruiser 1979
After a long, long time I finally have the financial means to add a 40 to my landcruiser family! (I have an 84 60 right now)
I've been shopping around for a long time and I see all these 40/43s coming in from South America etc and I've read on here a number of times where people have said...
I'm looking at what appears to be a well maintained 94. Everything looks clean. It's got 182000 miles.
Is there a way to guess the head gasket condition besides checking oil/coolant?
Any other 80-specific things to look for? I've got a 60 already.
One of my heater hoses sprung a little leak.
I was searching on here and see that over 10 years ago you could call cruiserdan and get a bunch of them.
Looks like some are discontinued etc etc.
Is there a vendor on here who has a package of these hoses available here these days? Or am I gonna...
Searched but didn't find an answer to this particular question.
I live in Las Vegas so it's now AC season. When running the AC and making a short trip, when I go to start it again, it hesitates. Ignition etc sounds strong so I'm guessing it's a fuel thing.
My idle speeds are slightly off so...
So I managed to get my hands on some new driver side doors and front fender for my 60 (mine are all rusty and bondo'd etc)
From the photos (before I went and picked them up) it looked like they were the same color as mine (84 white-ish) but upon picking them up, the colors are very different...
I live in Vegas so it basically never rains, but I actually had to use the wipers today - I was greeted with this lovely noise.
After a while it wouldn't so it anymore but it definitely sounds like something is messed up!
It sounds like its coming from inside the cab vs. under the hood but...
So I'm getting ready to purchase a 2 Jerry can set (one water, one gas) and am wondering how I should go about mounting them outside the FJ60 if I don't have a fancy swing-out bumper.
Has anyone ever done this or have opinions on good ways to mount them?
I didn't want to put them inside due to...
Since I bought my 84 FJ60 in August my steering wheel has been making these noises. "Grindy" sounds and clicks. Early on I opened up the column behind the wheel and sprayed some WD40 in there and the grinding sounds went away (temporarily).
The clicks occur when I turn the wheel - but not when...
Anyone know what this hose is (see pink arrow) ? Was doing a PS Pump removal and after pulling a ton of stuff out I see this hose here - not connected to anything.
I'm looking around on that side for an orphan connector but I haven't found anything yet - anyone?
Ok, so I have my 84 FJ60 and of course the PS Pump leaks - so I bought a new OEM pump and it just arrived today!
The whole side of the engine where the pump resides is completely gunked up and filthy, so I planned to also try and remove and clean up the smog pump and replace the hoses and stuff...
I broke my first BVSV nipple today while trying to swap out the crusty old vacuum hoses for my fancy new silicone tubing. Almost cried. Haven't had this FJ60 long and I'm just learning. I had no idea what the part was called or what it did for that matter.
After searching online I found it was...
I've been swapping out the ok original vacuum line for the cool new red silicone lines.
Up until this point I've just been pushing them on by hand but now that I'm done the "easy" ones I'm wondering if anyone would suggest a particular tool to make sure I get the new ones on nice and tight...
