My 1971 FJ40 Build Thread

I bought my first Landcruiser, an 84 FJ60 in August 2015. It's been a love affair the whole way.

I love the Landcruiser so much I had to get another one. I haven't picked it up yet, but I have some photos so you can start enjoying it too!

Good question - it needs nothing. Except maybe reverse lights... I don't think there are any on there! (don't have the truck in my possession yet)

The reverse light, yes there is only one, is above the Toyota emblem on the left rear panel. It looks complete. Beautiful example of a 1971. Congrats!

Relieved to hear that - I figured there HAD to be one....its not like we didn't consider reversing safety then!

How much of the history do you know? Are you second owner? Third, fourth, fifth? Is that original miles or has it already done one trip around the odometer?

Have you used the frame number to dial in the build date? I thought 71's had the unique bench seat that had three back sections, not 2?

I placed it'd birth at June 1971 and was just reading about the different benches for that year last night while skimming through all the FJ40 FAQ threads. I THINK that the early half of the year got the 2 seat bench then it changes mid-year to the 3 seats which lines up with the number - if that's correct.

I'm not sure. I'm 11/70 build date. 71 model. 3 seat version.

I have 12/71 and split 3 piece passenger seat.

there was a weird transition year between 1969-1972 this truck looks like it falls in that category. It has the brake booster and a couple other upgrades yet still retains the 2 piece bench without a lot of the emissions stuff. The 2 piece bench even has the latches that typically came with the 3 piece bench instead of the T-handle pull type latch that is on the 2piece. It should have a speed sensor(two piece cable)... somewhere under the truck - Mine came in a box of parts so I wasn't sure exactly where it goes on the truck.
