Yeah. We've got that on the '00 4Runner.
It's fine but I find that a tailgate adds more utility. Also I find I can get closer to a tailgate with a heavy item because there's no bumper in the way.
I own a 60 and an 80. I love my pigs but they're pigs.
I like driving my wife's '00 4Runner too, even though it doesn't have the "weight" of the other 2. It's our primary go-around-town because mileage.
I like having a tailgate.
It looks like an engine bay.
I for one hate those plastic...
Exactly. Toyota will make what sells, this is the bottom line. They believe they foresee what is coming and are building for that. Only time will tell if they're right.
We here seem to keep forgetting that despite our passion, we're not the majority of the Toyota truck buyers out there.
I see a common thread of a fundamental misunderstanding of how retail works. Manufacturers sell at WHOLESALE to dealers which are RETAIL.
Manufacturers don't see an extra penny when the dealers mark up vehicles. Again dealers are not "Toyota", they are independent but contracted to be the...
Not around here (or this region) at least not on what people want. Yeah they'll take a couple/few thou of an already inflated price high-option truck, I'f you're willing to pay over 80K after the "discount".
I remember my chain was loose, ate through the case. Found out the hard way what an...
There's no reason a person can't continue to own one. But for most everyone else there's better options out there.
Obviously that ship sailed long ago, in this modern world we're just not going to get a simple, naturally aspirated, underpowered, 4cyl from anyone.
While that may satisfy a few...
I think you're missing the beauty of the combined platform. With consolidation more parts will work with more vehicles with little to no modification, just some hardware changes.
We saw this with the FJC. Here was a brand new model, yet because it was built on a shared platform we saw lift kits...
This is a fair point and does imply that Toyota is complicit. Still they want to continue selling cars and the only way is through those dealers like it or not.
Exactly this is it plain and simple. We are a free market economy. These dealers mark it up BECAUSE THEY CAN plain and simple.
If the...
That would be cool. My 1st gen was my favorite off-roader. Bonus point if the top comes off!
THIS 100%
People saying these are "all the same" and complaining why we don't have a "stripped down" 300?!
If you look at this range as a whole there ARE many options.
I'm not so sure it's "convenient" as a marketing choice. To the vast majority of US Toyota buyers the name "Prado" has no meaning.
I get the same for my 80. The design of the third gen 4Runner borrows heavily from the 80.
Truth be told. The GX is basically the Lexus version of a 4Runner. The...
Am I missing something? Hasn't it been the "Land Cruiser Prado" all along?
Saying the Prado isn't a LC or shouldn't have an LC badge is self-contradicting.
It's here if you want it, it's over at Lexus.
I've seen this exact thing from other brand's dealers. I first saw it in person back in 2019 at a Ford dealer on a Raptor. 50K dealer "adjustment". It brought it to just over 100K, for a pickup.
It's not that the manufacturers "allow" it. It's that they can't do anything about it. Simple supply...
You are correct, sorry if the context wasn't clear. I was being facetious to illustrate my previous point. Emoji added to show I was joking.
I think the whole truck/SUV line is imbued with Land Cruiser engineering and know how and has been all along. And now especially with the whole line...
The manufacturers have been 'frowning upon' this situation. The thing is they have little power in the relationship. These old exclusivity contracts protect the dealers and distributors plain and simple. Give the middleman lots of pricing power. Manufacturers either sell through existing...
This. 4Runners are also overbuilt.
I had a 1st gen and that thing was bulletproof. We currently have a 3rd gen and it's plenty burly too. The same class of vehicles from other manufacturers just don't compare. My dad's got a 2nd gen Sequoia and that's a tank too.
Toyota trucks and truck-based...
You got to separate out dealers and distributors from the manufacturer.
Dealers and/or distributors are playing games with "suggested prices". This is happening because of the supply/demand you were talking about.
Manufacturers have been trying to do something and discovered they have little...
