    Nail Gun Question

Thanks for the information. However, I have a bit of a problem. I was trying it out with some 12d nails and I think I blew a seal. There's air leaking from around the trigger. The air stops when I pull the trigger in, but blows continuously when it's released. Any ideas?

    Nail Gun Question

I just recenty bought a Hitachi NR83A2 on Ebay that appears to work great (shoots nails in board-what it's supposed to do). However it did not come with any instructions. I was hoping for some advice on folks that have used these things before (I haven't). Do I need to use a specific brand of...

    68 what kind of axle

I think that birfields did start after 67. My 65 has the ball and claw. I don't think that you would be able to see the ball and claw due to the grease. However, if you stuck a screwdriver in there you may be able to feel the edge where the two claws connect. You may even be able to turn the...

Roll Bar with "Long" Style Jump Seats??

With the top of the rear seats so close to the roll bar, it looks like your rear passengers could wack their heads pretty good when the rig went through some side to side motion. Probably ok for the inlaws, but may make life difficult if the wife was back there.

Would a 2" shackle lift work with 33's or would is screw up the drive lines?

    Rear Axle Race Removal

Thanks for all the info. I'm not worried about the inner race. I'm going to put all new bearings/stuff on the chunk so I'm going to pull it. I think I'll try grinding a groove in the race and chiseling it off. The Haynes manual says to knock it off with a cold chisel, then tap the new one on...

    Gearing?

My rig had a three speed with 4:11's and 31 inch tires and would run all day long at 75 mph (but it was a white knuckle ride). Keep your drive train and go with the 33's

    Rear Axle Race Removal

This guy is definately pressed on, so it must be the outer. The part number is R1398 (hope that helps). I'll try the grinder trick. Thanks!

    Rear Axle Race Removal

I'm trying to remove the rear axle races on my 65 FJ-40. I've tried beating them off with a cold chisel, but it doesn't budge. Any other ideas?

    Looking for brake line supplier

Thanks for the info. I was going to go with the flaring and bending tools from Eastwood, but wasn't sure on the size of the tubing. I was hoping there was someplace that sold the fittings, but it doesn't sound like it. I can reuse my existing fittings (good thing I kept them), and buy any others...

    Looking for brake line supplier

I want to put all new brake lines on my '65 FJ-40 and I am looking for a good supplier. I would like to find a supplier that sells the fittings, buy the correct flaring and bending tools, and purchase brake line in bulk. Anybody know of a source out there? Thanks.

What's the best Po-boy paint system?

I've used rust bullet on my frame and Eastwood's chassis black to paint the frame and other frame/axle parts and pieces. I'm impressed with both products and want to continue using them. However, I've found that chassis black over rust bullet tends to scratch easily. So I have tried a few...

    Front axle rebuild questions

The axle will go past the seal and I can feel it begin to slide into the differential. However, it will not slide all of the way in. I have tried rotating the axle and the differential yoke at the same time, but still can't get the axle all of the way in. It sticks about 1 to 1.5 inchs from the...

    Front axle rebuild questions

I am getting ready to put the front axle for my '65 FJ-40 back together (it's totally stripped). I honed the brass axle seals to fit the axle shafts and pressed them into the axle housing. I am getting ready to drop in the differential and install the axles. Doing a dry run, the axles shafts...

    Axle seal question

I recently purchased new axle seals (the brass bushings that are press fit into the axle housing) for the axle rebuild on my '65 FJ-40. I immediately installed them into the axle housings without trying them out over the axles. What I found out was that the seals were too narrow to fit the...

    V-8 Ideas

Thanks for the information. The motor I have is a 283 block with 327 heads and 2 bbl 307 intake manifold. I'm not sure what the cam is, but I don't think it's stock. I'm also not sure what kind of crank. Based on the comments so far, the 350 appears to be a better choice than the 307...

    V-8 Ideas

I'm in the process of a frame up rebuild on my '65 FJ-40. The truck has a Chevy 307 V-8. Based on the engine number it looks like the motor is actually a 283 that has been stroked. From what I have read, this appears to be an ideal motor for a cruiser since the 307 was created for higher low-end...
